I've been pretty happy with my spin-off oil filter from Cycle X on my 750, so I decided to pick up one for this project.

Another decision will be which type of exhaust to run on this bike.  Lately I've been thinking of a 4-4 reverse megaphone set up, but the trick with that set up will be to get an aggressive enough sound but with a civilized baffle to not scare the neighbors.

Collected some additional parts for the bike:  Gasket set from Cycle X, Reg/Rectifier and Motogadget M-Unit and M-Button.

How about picking up just a 4:1 header, then using a reverse cone ala FunJimmy? Inserting a straight pipe section from the collector would allow you to position the silencer anywhere you determine it needs to go. His interceptor has nailed that look and I bet it sounds the Bee's Knees.

If you could get just the header from a local custom shop, ya know, then build your own tail section.

Fortunately, time is on my side with this build, but I do like FJ's set up. That said, I haven't seen anyone run 4-4 reverse megaphones on a 550. Decisions decisions.

More goodies on order:
New cam tensioner, adjustable cam chain sprocket and chain. 

Still stuck between a low compression big bore kit and a Wiseco high compression kit.  I'll have to hear some feedback from Kraut and Cal as to their respective results, as they are using the different kits with ported motors.

Don - what did you use for a Cam chain and the source? Stock, aftermarket, etc? Details please! I've posted this question but gotten no replies.

Uh, my bike blows KK away. In fact, I had to install telescopic rear views so I could see him after shifting to 2nd gear... ;D

Cal,

I sourced the cam chain and tensioner from David Silver Spares.  They are OEM replacements.  NOS are unobtanium.  The adjustable cam chain sprocket is from Dynoman.

So no need for any "upgraded" model due to performance mods? I wouldn't expect it necessary, as the power gains (on mine) are very similar to stock.

It's a good call about the adjustable sprocket. I'll have to see what MRieck sends along.

I haven't seen an upgraded cam chain tensioner available akin to the Cylcle X or M3 tensioners.

I just double-checked with Cycle X.  They are basically selling through their 500/550 stock.  The guy Matt told me that 500/550 parts haven't sold well, so they stopped development of new parts.

I've been coveting Cal's 500 engine build (Wiseco kit with thermal reflective coatings).  Damn you, Cal, for distracting me!  I like the look of Cal's 12-point bolts, but I don't like the idea of having to get a whole new wrench/socket set or adding to my road tool kit.  It sure looks cool though!

My DSS cam chain tensioner finally made it.  That was a costly bit of kit, but this motor is going to need a full rebuild, as it is leaking from mulitple seals/gaskets.

They're standard 12 point sockets. Your set not have them? If not, buy a small set of 12 point sockets and away you go...

It's nice to know that if I run into any snag getting a title for the untitled K4 I bought, that I can swap everything to this frame.  My plan is to take the complete K4 to get titled this December.  If I can't get a title, I'll cannibalize the complete bike and use the pre-titled frame.
