I won't claim to be an expert of any sort about whether or not to use the rear brake.  But I do know from my years of dirt-bike riding growing up that the rear brake is very useful when you're trail riding.

Speaking of which, I just signed up for the MSF Dirt Bike course over in Alpharetta next weekend.  Looking forward to what should be a fun day of riding.  I have to do that one so that I can take my GS over there in March for an Adventure Bike Course.  ;D

Both classes sound like a lot of fun, Ron.  I have very little dirt riding experience by comparison.  I'll have to see if there's a local dirt MSF course.  I was also interested in going to Supermoto school.

If there isn't one near you, Delta flies from LA to Atlanta.  ::)
You could always come hang out at my house for a while and go to the one here.  And it's less than 5 miles from there to Bill Benton's house, so we could take you over to Honda Funland!  :D

That's pretty damn tempting.  I have two cousins that fly for Delta.  One lives in Fayetteville, too..  I'd love to see Honda Funland, too!!

Hopefully within the next 6 or so weeks, accounting for finishes (likely PC) of the front and rear, ordering spokes and rims from Buchanan's (assuming they are in stock), lacing/truing and tires.

It is my understanding that lacing a Cognitomoto front dictates a certain spoke length and pattern.  Is that the same for the rear?

The quality of the machining on Devin's hub is incredible.  The hub is machined to tight tolerances with the cush drive.  There is absolutely no slop when the hub and cush come together.

Don,
We needed some of you young whippersnappers out there today.  The dirt bike class was great and taught me some nice techniques for bike control and counterbalancing but holy crap I had forgotten how much work it is riding dirt bikes.  Definitely a young man's game.  (Still didn't stop me from signing up for the adventure bike course in April though).
