NOS petcock sourced and installed. 

Now I need to change jets in the carburetors.  I get a rough spot in the powerband around 5800 RPM and lose torque. 

Also need to get some of those annoying little badge holders to hold the pins of the badges in place for the tank and sidecover badges.

Drilled rotors being shipped from Godffrey.

The throttle has been sticking a little at idle. Not sure if it is the cable. It'll run at a higher idle. Then if I rev it, it will idle lower. Then again, it may idle high again.

I purchased a pair of stock length fork tubes from Forking by Frank (great quality) but for now I'm running the originals and save the newbies for a rainy day.  They have some oxidation under the fork ears but no pitting on the lower travel portion (the gaitors did their job!). 

Right now, I'm just waiting on my brake package from Godffrey (arriving tomorrow!) with dual, drilled rotors!  Once I have the dual brake set up sorted, I think this bike will be left alone to ride.

Holy moly!  I just got my dual brake goodies from Godffrey today.  All I can say is:  WOW!!  The rotors have been drilled, thinned and (the mounting holes) counterbored so that the standard mounting bolts can be used;  I won't need to source longer mounting bolts!  I also got a pair of completely reconditioned, rebuilt and repainted calipers.  They look better than new and I also got phenolic pistons (lighter and corrosion proof).  Godffrey also supplied me with a modified speedo drive mount plate.

I'm also planning to replace the wheel bearings (front and rear) and swingarm bushings.

I might have to consider some new shocks, too.  The stockers are pretty shot, and the front suspension has been upgraded with Race Tech springs and emulators.  Maybe I'll go with Hagons or Works as replacements.

I'll save my nickels for Fox or Works units for my builds incorporating modern front ends.  For this build, I want to keep it looking more period authentic.  The engine is stock and this is a lazy cruiser.

Just got an update from Rob aka Voxonda. My preload adjusters are almost done. The caps are finished and he just needs to turn the adjusters.

Main jets changed and that seemed to be the culprit (was running rough at about 5800 rpm).  The bike is now running great and sounds more civilized with the baffle in place.  I'll need to film a new video.

One of the stinkin' repro badges mounting stems snapped off!  It was likely a forging air bubble because it was ultra fragile.  Stem repaired and now both side covers are mounted.

I'm not sure if this bike qualifies as a true build.  More like performance upgrades (brakes, suspension, carbs, exhaust) and a cosmetic refresh. 

The bike is running like a champ.  The combination of the new Avon tires, Race Tech fork internals, Hagon shocks, swingarm bushings and wheel bearings has made a quantum leap improvement in ride quality and handling. The bike used to wobbly like Jello at 75 mph.  Now it seems much more sure-footed. 

Snowman, I get lots of professional wrench help.  Admittedly, my strongest suit with these bikes is design and knowing what I want.  Carb tuning is still an utter mystery to me.

I'm planning on checking out the VVMC 3rd Sunday Ride and the "Sunday Mass" at Deus Ex Machina.  Hope to see fellow SOHC4 members there.

I just took my 550 for a ride to go swap it out for my RC51 (I'm going for a ride with some buddies up to Arrowhead and Big Bear tomorrow). I got the shock of my life when I gave the RC51 WOT -- it about yanked my arms off.  I've been so used to riding my 550 and 750 that I forgot how strong a modern V-Twin superbike can pull!

Went on an epic ride today on my modern bike (RC51) -- through the mountains and past Silverwood Lake, Gregory Lake and Arrowhead Lake, along Rim of the World, past Big Bear Lake and down the back side of the mountains to Redlands.  Amazing views and even more amazing twisties.  Some tight technical hairpins, but even more fun were the high speed sweepers.  I'm tired now, but I just filled up the 550 and wiped her down for a vintage ride tomorrow with the VVMC in Venice.  I'm meeting up with the Lossa crew (Jay and Steve) to ride up from Long Beach.

Here are some shots showing off the new dual rotor brake set up, painted body (with new badges), tires and Hagon shocks.  This little bugger only has a minor fraction of the power of the RC51, but it'll be fun to twist the throttle.  The suspension improvements and tires have made a big difference.

Another great ride today.  But this time not many twisties or mountains.  I joined up with Jay and Steve of Lossa Engineering and three shop friends, and took the 550 out for the VVMC's 3rd Sunday Ride from Venice to Malibu (Neptune's Net), and then a return to Deus Ex Machina for the Sunday Mass (live band, free beer and burgers!).  It was an absolutely perfect weather day and a great ride.

I need to replace the idle jets (go up a size) on my carburetors -- she's prone to stalling at idle.  Yes, I know, it's a pod thing.

Great paint work.  Love the color.   I now find myself wishing for the dual front discs.   Love that look and I am sure the breaking performance is tight also.    I may need to start hunting for rotor, calipers and mounting gear.   Will back read this build to see how you attacked that.
