I'm more surprised that they spanned the straps such a distance.  They usually use the tie-down points on the floor of the tow bed.

I was also surprised... but there were no issues.

Yes it has been fine. I was just trying to squeeze the last life out of an old battery. I have an AGM on the way, but I am going to test the charging system this week to be sure.

Also, keeping the revs high allows you to keep riding. Been there, of course all lights were turning orange as I was approaching... Still better to get a tow for the regulator/rectifier.

I think they weren't talking about an Absorbed-Glass Mat (AGM) battery.  They (and I ) thought you were saying you had ordered an Anti-Gravity Micro battery....sometimes called an AGM.

I was referring to Absorbed Glass Mat all right. It still is lead-acid, for sure, just no risk of spillage, and IME lasts a tad longer for some reason.

The battery evanphi is using actually is AGM, just one where you still add the acid and then seal. I never saw this, the AGM batteries I buy are already sealed and ready to use.

My bike wouldn't start yesterday.... OH NO A GREMLIN!!!


Took my tank off, started jiggling wires... IT CAME BACK ON. WOOHOO! Got me home...

Inspection (further jiggling of wires) this morning before big Ride for Dad event (you can still donate here) found that the switched power wire for my electronic speedo had come a bit loose! Fuxed her up good, and threw some electrical tape on there for good measure, too. All working fine now!

Got a "bearing puller" from Canadian Tire...



5/8" sleeved concrete anchor! Going to open it up on the old bearing, and tap them out from the inside. Should save having to mess around with the internal spacer.


Also picking up my new Diamond chain from the post office today.

Ordered my tapered steering bearings and wheel bearings... All Balls for everything from http://www.canadasmotorcycle.com! Now I can get my wheels and swingarm all done up, I'm going to save the steering bearings for the winter. 

The previous owner of my house left something like this:

in the garage... Couldn't figure what it was for until the other day. Bearing race remover! This will be helpful for the steering bearings job.

Ordered cush drive rubbers and a new o-ring for the rear wheel/sprocket carrier, new tongued washers for the rear sprocket, and new lockplate for the front sprocket. All from my local stealership.

Also ordered a new shield for my helmet, and some new gloves.

Also going to be ordering new fork tubes and progressive springs. In a month or so...

The PO fork tubes are bent. When I removed the forks 2 winters ago to do the brakes, remove ears, etc... I noticed one fork tube wouldn't sit on the front wheel's axle bolt. I just spun the fork tube around until the fork lower slid sideways into place. In the meantime I may try turning them so the bends are both facing forward, at least, rather than to the side (which may be affecting my handling).

If your fork tubes are bent (especially as much as you describe), do not use them as they will adversely affect the bike's handling.  The bike will never ride properly and may induce a wobble or worse.  The only thing they are really safe for now is holding up the front end until you get new tubes.

Redid my swingarm bushings.

Removed the old ones...


Went to my in-laws and used the 10-ton shop press (mechanic for in-law is awesome!) to press them in...



Got everything back together with a nice coating of new grease. Going to ride it tonight.

Discovered something fun... Notice anything missing?


How about now?


Broke a forking spoke! No idea how long it has been like this. Anyone have a spare spoke for a 17" rim (Hondamatic/77-78K) they want to send me?

Other than a ticking sound, that lone broken spoke could have been there for some time without anyone noticing. That said, a new one will fix her up.

That's what I figure. I know I did hit a pretty nasty pothole a few weeks ago. Rim not bent or anything, but might have popped this spoke.

OR it could could have always been there and I just didn't notice!

EDIT:

Hmmm... looking at this photo from a month or so ago, I think this broken spoke is new! Possibly that pothole I hit... All the spokes are intact in this pic.
