I agree with what you are saying Cal with one exception if the religion comes knocking on my door and I politely decline proselytizing and it's pushed I will destroy with humor or other to drive them away for there limits on the other end as well.
Bill the demon.
Same here Bill, we get the Jehovah's witnesses a lot round here, I tell them "i'm a Jehovah's bystander, I'm not like the witnesses, i don't like getting involved.... ;D
I don't bother to ask what branch of religion door-knockers claim to represent, I politely hold up my hand like a traffic cop signaling to stop, and say "I'm not interested. Thank you." End of conversation.
[/quote]

That is funny. I had them coming around a lot every Saturday. My Wife wondered why I spent so much time with the guy when I usually sent them packing.

I rolled my K8 out in the driveway and rolled out the toolbox. When he showed up I was always in the middle of something.

I would say, "I need to work on this while you are talking."  He would go on and I would say, handing him some rubber gloves, can you grab the 12mm, or "can you hold this".

This went on for several weeks. My Wife got pissed until I explained, "this guy is a fairly good mechanic and who else is gonna help me.

Finally, he gave up, but I got the bike done.  ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

But we were boys, and boys will be boys, and so they will. To us, everything was dangerous, but what of that? Had we not been made to live forever?

My favorite retort to a door knocker:

When they came to the door my well taken care of children were playing nicely in our groomed front yard, and they could look into the home and see it was neat and a pleasant place to live.

When asked what church we attended I told them we had opted out of church.  They inquired further, I deferred and asked how I could help

They looked at me and stated that they could see our happy children and our clean home, they felt I I must be a Christian.

To which I retorted " Well I guess we shoot down that theory".

They left.

My wife laughed.

An older, but very eccentric, friend of the family kept his overcoat hanging on a hook beside his front door. Whenever the doorbell rang, he would don his coat and only then open the door. If it was someone he did want want to admit to the house or even speak to, he would claim they caught him at a bad moment, he was just getting ready to go out.
On the other hand if it was someone he did want to meet, he would let them know how lucky they were, as he had just that minute returned from an errand.

It takes all sorts.

Ok back on topic, being "offended" of representations of the self-proclaimed prophet. Nevermind the source, this is how muslim scholars explain it should work:

Quote
...

A central tenet of Islam is that Mohammed was a man, not God, and that portraying him could lead to revering a human in lieu of Allah.

"It's all rooted in the notion of idol worship," says Akbar Ahmed, who chairs the Islamic Studies department at American University. "In Islam, the notion of God versus any depiction of God or any sacred figure is very strong."

In some ways, Islam was a reaction against Christianity, which early Muslims believed had been led astray by conceiving of Christ, not as a man but as a God. They didn't want the same thing to happen to Mohammed.

"The prophet himself was aware that if people saw his face portrayed by people, they would soon start worshiping him," Ahmed says. "So he himself spoke against such images, saying 'I'm just a man.' "

In a bitter irony, the sometimes violent attacks against portrayals of the prophet are kind of reverse idol-worship, revering -- and killing for -- the absence of an image, said Hussein Rashid, a professor of Islamic studies at Hofstra University in New York.

...

IMO the "offense" is an excuse to rebel and/or intimidate.

No one actually bothers to read scripture anymore, and it itself is so old that the writings are incredibly confusing and archaic at best, so people "interpret" how it's convenient for their agendas. Not only that, scripture is man-made, at the start already an interpretation/observation/shroom-induced illumination.

Things like cults or scientology do work on some people, which literally blows the mind when you look at it from the outside. (Apologies to mormons among us, to me it's like a bad paranormal TV show, really...)

Mind control at work.

From what I understand about the Jehovas is they are coveting houses which they will just move into which after the rapture will be empty.

They would come to our place in remote Utah (must be a tough country for non Mormon). They would shake us down for a donation  and since we were broke it was futile, and so we wouldn't get a copy of the latest Watchtower from them. They would always  leave a free copy at  empty house next door, so we were able to know the word anyway.

Bill the demon.

Yeah I read it. Of course I did, he was one of the first American writers to be acknowledged in Europe.

Actually I was raised for a good part of my early life in the Bronx NY in an Italian family. My Uncles gave me some sage advice learned through some interesting enterprises.

I was taught there were Fisherman and there were Fish. If this guy wanted to take up my time, he had to earn it. I guess he was the Fish.

Back on topic. It seems that Europe is now trying to be proactive rather than ignore a threat on their own soil. It is no longer an American or Israeli problem. It seems Belgium is taking the fight fight to the bad guys.

He was published in Czech newspaper few weeks ago, too.

Funny how news get stopped by the ocean. I bet I am about the only one here who knows what is Pegida, while in Central Europe it makes the news quite often.

Sorry, I meant here is in USA and on this forum.

From what I know, those are people like you and me - but they are reported as racists and xenophobs and whatever else - and than you see pictures and in the crowd are all colors and nations together. They feel threatened and not protected by their government while officials are trying to play it down, because everybody just loves everybody in good old EU, right?

They used to send a gal that was a few years older but she would show up in skirt and heels and had nice legs so I usually didn't mind chatting for a few. Then they sent this other guy who was a bit more intent on selling me the Lord and when it got annoying I'd ask him if he thought monotheism might be offensive to the other Gods - he shut up and went away. They must have made a note or something because I didn't see another of them for years after that.

That White fat Islami in the link   from Germany is hitler of Islamic state. Southpark needs to do a Cartman episode on that guy.

bla bla bla,,,,

The attached short speech from Winston Churchill, was delivered by him in 1899 when he was a young soldier and journalist.

"How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy.

The effects are apparent in many countries, improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture,
sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the
Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement,
the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men.

Individual Muslims may show splendid qualities, but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it had vainly struggled, the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of ancient Rome."
Sir Winston Churchill; (Source: The River War, first edition, Vol II, pages 248-250 London ).
