Terrorist attack in Paris
« on: January 07, 2015, 04:39:18 AM »
We've been following this for the past hour or so. Apparently two gunmen with assault rifles attacked the offices of a satirical newspaper in Paris killing at least 10 people and injuring another 10, 4 of whom are fighting for their lives. Despite being tackled by armed coppers, the gunmen seem to have gotten away. Our esteemed president is on site warning of punishment. The country has gone to it's highest security alert.

Is there no end to this schidt ? How big are men with automatic weapons against unarmed civilians ?

Apparently 2 policemen are among the dead, and the search is underway to find the gunmen. I can't see that ending peacefully.

btw, the newspaper poked fun at everything, just as the press should be allowed to do.

Yeah, I saw it first thing in the morning. So bad.

I mean a lot of the times news peoples piss me off, but you said it.  They should be free to poke fun from whatever they choose.

And the cowardice of shooting unarmed people is just sickening.

Awful thing to happen, especially over cartoons if the early reports turn out to be true.

Until trial and error leads to a way for help people better understand the universe we exist within,  people who adapt mythologies to their liking will continue to haunt us.

The unfortunate thing for the West is I do not think we can revenge our way out of the problem, and until the aforementioned trial and error system finds a solution, there is little alternative.

Just my two cents...

Yes, cartoons were at the heart of it, rather political lampooning. Charlie Hebdo (the paper concerned) fundamentally poked fun at everyone and kept a lot of people honest, including our French politicians. The paper had previously been firebombed about 4 years ago over a joke about a certain prophet, but kept doing what they were good at.

There is an absolutely shocking piece of video on Youtube (and I'm glad it's there) of a police officer wounded and lying on the footpath. Just before driving away, the two gunmen approach him with their assault rifles and shoot him dead at a range of about 2 metres. Brave bastaards.

Unfortunately as I got to the railway station this evening, the newsagent had a sign up saying that he was not stocking that paper any longer. Terrorism can work it appears. So while I have never bought this particular journal before, I think I will make a point of doing so next week.

Meanwhile the hunt is on for the 2 gunmen, I rather doubt that they will have a day in court.

If you want to discuss what I mean, please feel free to PM me, I like an intelligent discussion between open minded people.

Elsewise please try to remain positive and discuss what you see as a way to understand & respond to a tragedy such as has occurred.

The coppers seem to have a firm idea as to who they are. They are looking for two brothers in their early 30s and a younger accomplice of 18 years. They are all apparently French, the two shooters used a Kalashnikov and a pump action shotgun. No doubt they will be caught soon and given a fair trial.  ;)

Huge crowds out on the streets in towns and cities all over France peacefully protesting that this was an attack on all of us. Great solidarity in Berlin and Brussels also.

And John Kerry speaks French quite well !

I am afraid thats exactly what the prophet  who started it all would do. At least the European history speaks very clearly in that sense.

Allah proly not, just like German gods would not aprove of racial clensing of the Third Reich.

Generally I keep away from sensitive topics, but I'd like to say this. Muslims and terrorists are two completely different entities. It is rather unfortunate that people committing atrocities like this have given the peaceful people a bad name. No Muslim will ever condone an act such as this regardless of how badly they were wronged. And to those thinking that their Prophet would do such a thing or preach it, please get your story straight by actually looking into his life from a valid source. In his entire lifetime, never did the J word come up, and one of the most noble men I know, Gandhi, was actually inspired by this very prophet to take the non violence approach to attain freedom from oppression.

Where these monstors have succeeded completely is in making the life of all peaceful Muslims a living hell. Even from the most peaceful of the countries, currpot aristrocracies and leaderships have forced some of them to leave their home country and move to a country that values freedom and life. People trying to escape oppression and moving to the west now find themselves being hounded even worse, have to put up with their neighbors hating them for having moved into a neighborhood, under constant surveillence and first suspect in any criminal act such as this, just because the terrorists screamed a few arabic words when commiting the atrocity.

Like Kev said, it worked, they got what they wanted, part of which is to make life of Muslims so incredibly difficult anywhere in the world that they simply give up and live out a life stuck in a place they'd rather not be. They've succeeded in preventing peaceful Muslims from making a better life for themselves.

Rant over, sorry folks.

Stop allowing them to build mosques in your countries. Let them thrive in their countries. Leave them alone or leave them out of our countries.

I had to check what I had heard about the Philippines incident, and this is an old strategy. One Palestinian bomber  was allegedly given the swine burial, and as it was done in  Israel  the naysayers said where did Jew's come up with a pig?

"But the rabbi said: "I truly believe it happened. The pigskin was supplied by someone with a good sense of initiative. The body was lying by the supermarket for three to four hours. There was plenty of time."

A whole discussion of this and whether it was attributable to Pershing is at Snopes, it's pretty good history reading.  In the mean time, keep plenty of pig entrails on hand if you want to publish political comics.

For the record, Muslims around the world have condemned these actions, but seems like no one cares or even wants to hear that news,

I think you are seeing a scenario unfolding in which the Radicals are no longer being tolerated by the Rational Muslim World.

This is a regional problem that needs to be sorted out by the people in the region. The Americans and Europeans need to lend some support, but we cannot bring about any order. We can only build more resentment  We must secure our own Countries until this is resolved by the Islamic World.

In the mean time, we need to preserve and exercise our freedoms and if it causes us some discomfort, everything has a price.
