Man I don't want to think how long that took to print.  At least it looks like you have access to a real printer not a cheap-o desktop one like myself.   :)

3D printed Front fender
Mounting points of fender are axle spacers and 4 bottom bolts on forks. I just need to find those 4 bolts but a little bit longer ones (20mm).
Another example of fine work! Just one question... I wonder if you had put the 'mounting points' on the other side of the forks, i.e., the front, that would have been better? That way you would only need a longer bolt, not a longer bolt + washer + nut. You probably already thought through that and have a good reason for doing it the way you have--I'm just wondering...
Thx ;)... I've put mounting points on "back side" of the forks because I wanted to hide as much of a fender as possible. So it is a visual thing. Also I think you can't tighten up axle bolts over the plastic of a fender.
Makes sense. So you'll have bolts long enough to pinch the axle and then, fully tightened, extend through to tighten your fender to the back side with nuts.

I ask because I'm going to have to build a fender for my USD forks and it seems there ain't no easy way... :P

Yep, you did understand correctly,  thats the plan ;)

My friend has a company for 3d printing so I can get good service for good value. It took 14h for fender to be printed ;)

14 hours at typical 3D printer time would make that a very expensive bumper.  Do you intend to use it as a fender or for  mold to fabricate a fiberglass version?
Given that,  I expect you intend to use it as is, therefore,  be certain that you factor the retail price of a printed fender when you insure the bike.

What about the section that sits on the axle...?  I wouldn't want to have plastic spacers in my front wheel, it wouldn't last long and be extremely dangerous....

It was designed to ride on the axle spacers if I am seeing it correctly. Or, the axle itself.  It is not sandwiched between the axle and moving parts or between a bearing and spacer. Plastic, ABS especially isn't always a vibration resistant or resilient plastic.

For my 750 project, I have an aluminum front fender that my buddy is fabricating round bar mounts to bolt onto the modern fork mount points.  I like the idea of a more elegant solution to use on my 550/650 project.

Actually it is not that expensive if I order 5-10. I asked one guy, how is doing plastic molds/things, he sad that fender is to complicated to be made from one peace mold... But he sad it can be done but it would demand a lot of hours=money ;).

No expense spared! Very clean minimalist, look. Almost just floating ontop of the wheel. Nicely done mirko

Thanks Paolo ;)

What about the section that sits on the axle...?  I wouldn't want to have plastic spacers in my front wheel, it wouldn't last long and be extremely dangerous....

It was designed to ride on the axle spacers if I am seeing it correctly. Or, the axle itself.  It is not sandwiched between the axle and moving parts or between a bearing and spacer. Plastic, ABS especially isn't always a vibration resistant or resilient plastic.

Fender is sits on axle spacer. So no worry there ;)

Original fender for GSXR is made from ABS plastic. But it is one peace mold. Weakest things in ABS 3d printed plastic are layers. When you take a closer look at my fender you can see layers of plastic. It will brake on those layers.  Thats why I increased thickness everywhere and added metal support tubes. Top of the fender is 3.5mm thick. I tried to brake it at top and I could not.

I was thinking of adding one layer of carbon on the inside of the fender, just to be sure. Or better, print fender with lower thickness and add that carbon layer....

But major concern is distance from brake rotors. Fender can't move to much. If you look closer, where fender is touching(not actually touching) the forks, you can see that forks are behaving like guides for up/down fender movement. That restricts fender movement.
But rotors can get hot and this plastic is not that resistant on heat. So I am planing to add some kind of thin heat resistant layer on spots closest to rotors.

For my 750 project, I have an aluminum front fender that my buddy is fabricating round bar mounts to bolt onto the modern fork mount points.  I like the idea of a more elegant solution to use on my 550/650 project.

Maybe you can be my best subject :). Fender is modeled for 18" tire of your size...  I have also modeled it for 17" but will not be using it....

I did some testing on the fender. I am getting confident that it will work :)

Today carbon fiber tubes arrived, they are going in to side holes on fender.

U can see carbon tubes sticking from holes....

This carbon tubes are 3.5mm D and they are really strong... really... look in video

http://

But I think this reinforcement is not necessary. So next time maybe I will remove it....

So the test... I've put on spacers and bearings, so all distances are right.

And than I took wooden humor and started punching several hundred dollars 3d Print :D
This is without reinforcement tubes etc...

The only thing left is to find good heat insulating and reflective tape. I will tape it in area near brake rotor.

Before you tape it, have you thought about using a ceramic paint? This would reflect the heat away from the fender without adding any bulk or material.

Tires arrived today. Front tire is Bridgestone Battlax BT-020 120/70ZR18, back tire is Battlax bt-54 170/60ZR18. They have similar pattern. I choose them because they are the most similar looking tires with width 120 and 170... And I think this are the widest tires I can put on cb750 without compromising caferacer look...

I think that's probably also a function of the profile of the tire, since modern 17" sport tires are in the 50-60 profile range.  I picked out some skinnier profiles 110/80 - 18 (F) and 150/65 - 18 (R) on my 550/650 project.  Yours is going to lay out some beastly rubber on that rear.

Today swingarm arrived. It is a 1981 dohc swingarm, long and round... like it needs to be :)

One question for people who already had done this conversion. Swingarm is 248mm(9 3/4in) in width at the pivot bolt(including oil seals). If I understand correctly i need to cut 12mm~1/2in off from right side(oil tank side) of swingarm?

I measured it... Right side at the pivot bolt needs to be shortened by 12mm(exactly 11.8mm)

MM,
Beautiful work all around - I love watching your expertise and attention to detail as your vision comes to fruition.

If you don't mind sharing your ideas (for instance the swingarm modded for a mono), you could rent out your wooden forms.  They disassemble and pack flat, so you could ship it easily.  Someone could pay you $?? to use it, then return it when done.  You wouldn't have to do any extra fabbing for all the guys drooling over your parts.  Just a thought...

I don't have a 750, otherwise I would be begging for you to make 2 of everything.  :D

Peace,
G
