KO basket, i think? YUP! Gonna bring back to life......
« on: November 15, 2015, 06:45:32 AM »
Hi, new to forum, been wanting to do one of these project for years. Just in casual conversation with heavy diesel mechanic at work, I told him of my desire to own a CB750 one day, or even better to tinker with one, this was a bike I loved when I was little kid. He mentioned a buddy of his wanted to give him a 70's Honda for him to fix up, I asked  is it a CB?,750? He wasn't sure, called his buddy, so off I went to look at it. It was just a rolling frame leaning on a tree, the rest of bike was in his shed in a million pieces. His friend said I could take it, he was going to take to scrap yard anyway, he didn't want any money, so he said case of beer would be ok. Us Canadians love our beer lol. When I got all parts home  I started to process everything, almost 2complete engines, the original the drive chain went through both cases, exhaust was garbage, 2 sets of jugs, 1 head, and so on.Ihave a bunch of questions to ask, should I keep all questions on this thread or start new thread? im a bit confused about engine# on original cases, the second set is a later k model which I looked up, also is this considered a K0? frame #is CB750-1013753, and what I think is original motor case is #31 H 4596, also second case id #CB750E-2045132, also have to figure how to post some pics on here, Thanks in advance.

Nice score,, the front fender is it sharp on the ends or rolled over.
Do you have reggie, might even have been a 69 reggie.
Give us the motor number again on the broken cases, i think you might have typed it wrong. Is the break on both cases? Might be worth fixing if it appears to be the original cases .

Count the number of holes holding clutch cover on , on the damaged case with the funny numbers..looks like maybe an early renumbered case.. Might be worth trying to save.

Carbs are the the type that are all tied together mechanically. Here are pics. I also have 2 sets of jugs that came with bike, I am missing some parts though... spark advancer and points ignition, also drive train cover, also missing generator cover and generator, and pistons and rings. Bike has been outside since 1980 so wiring prob all shot I'm assuming. Considering the price I paid for bike, should still be worth fixing it up, I have side covers and tank, just need seat. What it your opinion on that? Or should I just wait to grab decent running one and transfer some parts that are in better shape and sell rest for parts to offset the cost? But to be honest it would pretty cool to bring it back to life.

You have some  correct parts for KO there, IMO, I would try to get it back together in some way if you have reggie..

That H numbered crankcase looks like it might be one of the factory replacements when chains failed and busted the original.  The ones I have seen are blank without stamps.

Well step 1 done! Got registration into my name. It's a 1970. Next is the hunt for the tank, previous owner gave it to a farmer for him to build a cafe, but never did anything with it, so gonna see the old boy, keep you posted.

Welcome pipeguy.  I too think it would be cool to get it back on the road.  Too bad the frame has been sitting outside for 35 years. I'd closely inspect that first.

Hey guys, I've got a question, how do you remove the shell crank bearings from engine cases, I've been doing some searching and only read about, measuring clearances, just don't want to mess something up, thanks.

That's how I did it too. FWIW, between Frank and a lot of the other 'old timers' input and/or answers is always great. You'll be alright for the most part with the search bar but the actual humans that chime in are gold.   ;)   Rick.

I have another question for you old timers. I was walking in garage today and noticed something peculiar about my front suspension, there is an air valve at triple clamp at top of forks, is this some sort of after market add on?

The air caps are kind of fun to tinker with for a little extra front end "tighten up", but really are not a large performance improvement compared to other modern methods.  If you are concerned about maximum concours originality, ditch 'em...if not they are a period mod that can be made to look cool and function exactly the same as original if no air is added. ....or Drop 'em in a big envelop and send 'em to me.  I will give you twenty bucks or some originals to replace 'em.
If it works good, it looks good...
