These motors like to rev.  You may need a gasket refresh if the motor has been sitting idle for years, but they are made to pack on miles.

Talking rpm. Wanna get the brakes and suspension done before any performance upgrades.

Plan on porting, cam swap at least multi angle valve job and maybe big bore once all else is good. Has been running at least the last ten. Not sure before that. Runs smooth and quiet, other that valves, now.

Good plan.  I always spend my upgrade money first on brakes and suspension, unless I have oil leak issues to contend with also.

My first bike was a 78 550K, thrashed that thing for 2 years, crashed it a few times and sold it to a buddy who continued trashing it for another couple years. Great bike, bought it with 600 miles on it in 1983, 17 years old and bulletproof.

+1. I had that system on my 550.  Lots of folks bag on MAC pretty hard around here and I am not really sure why...does have kinda of a nasally annoying sound unless you get the race baffle though...

My 750 had a mac on it when i got it. I made my own baffle and packed the megaphone with stainless wool. Sounds really good now. Was thinking of going that route again but wanted other opinions as well

Ripple Rock Racers makes a nice stainless system, too. I just got one for my 650 motor. Great guys to deal with, great price (they're in Canada so the exchange rate is great) but you might have just missed the 20% off site wide discount they had going.

The MotoGP pipe is available with a removable baffle.  With the baffle, it is civilized.

The Hindle also has a baffle built in.  The Hindle is lighter (thinner wall stainless).

Both are a major improvement over the Mac.

Cant find a MotoGP anywhere. I saw then hindle earlier today. Really like the header, not so much the muffler, between being a 4-2-1 and atill having access to the oil filter im leaning this way. Would like to hear one first though.

I never found the MAC exhaust to be this this way. I found it to be a nice, tight sound. But, you know...whatevs...everyones taste is different ::)

What size tires are you running? And what tires do you like. No arguments or this is better than that. Just curioua what you guys like. I run Avon am26s on my 750 and like them. But they dont offer factory size for the rear on a 550.
