After some scrubbing it wasn`t that bad after all. Good greasing before assembly and I think it does it`s job fine.

Got all the carbs disassembled yesterday. Floats and all the other parts looked fine. I got the rebuild kits and just wondering what parts do you mainly change in a rebuild? I had 125 main jets, so I`m going to change to 110. I`m going for the original setup with the original airbox. This is something I have never done before so if you have any tips that might help please feel free to tell.

Example there was one part that I didn`t get out. The main jet tube (nr.24). Is it necessary to change? If so, how does it come off? Felt like it`s stuck pretty good. I got the new part in the repair kit.

So, some cleaning and rebuilding ahead...

Before I start the carb rebuild I disassembled the master cylinder. It was a pain, but eventually I got that circlip out and all fell apart.

I couldn`t remove the reservoir from the master cylinder. Is it removable? Is there threads or should I just pop it out somehow?

Carbs were sent today to ultrasonic wash. I finally received progressive springs so I could start to assemble the forks. I had to buy a spesific tool for the fork seals, because I have those early internals. I think the fork legs are newer model tough. I also had a set back with the painted parts. Received them, but the paint job was unacceptable. Well the paint job was fine, but the parts were scratched. So I took them back. Maybe I should be painting these parts myself. At least then there is only me to blame if things go bad. So I can`t assemble the triple yet. But some progress was achieved.

There was a little problem with the seals. I had to double check which side goes up. I hope I made the right choise when I put these in text and number side facing up. Larger cavity in the seal was facing down. So the little ridge on the outer side was down. (In the Hack-A-Week series Dino installed these the opposite side facing up. That was a little confusing, because a lot of things I know about this bike I learned from his videos. Or this forum.)

I also honed the master cylinder and installed bearing races for steering head.

I didn`t have the time to ask why my dad wanted these of. Well, those have to be opened eventually. Pipe pliers, heat, tapping, penetrating oil and brutal force did the trick. As you can see the part is destroyed. There is still 4 of these to go.

It`s been a while, but today I got the carbs together. I went with 115 main jet and put the e-clip in the middle position on the needle. I hope I get the carbs back on the bike tomorrow.

I`m trying to finish these carbs, but I came up with a question. There are 4 small washers/spacers that I`m not sure where they came from. I think these were in the linkage like the picture shows. I can`t find a diagram where these are pictured. If somebody would clarify this it would be appreciated.

And here you can see this spacer between the surfaces that clamp on the rod. The bolt goes thru it. Should it be like this?

Some progress here. I managed to assemble the airbox with the K&N filter. Also I got carbs back in to the bike. Front brake is also in place with new hoses. I went with the oem rubber ones. Maybe not the best performance but I like the look of them. Upper hose was a little pain, because Honda doesn`t make that as short as the old one anymore. This new one is about 10cm longer, but it fits ok without any sharp corners. Meters are in place and the instrument cluster. New cables for the speedo and rpm meters also. Feeling hopeful and looking forward to get it on the road in the couple of weeks.

Today I bleeded the front brake and mounted the exhaust. Tomorrow I will receive a new headlight and miscellaneous stuff for it. I`m still waiting carbtune to arrive so I could finally get those carbs synced. I`m having a little issue thats new. I don`t know what is the cause but it keeps burning the main fuse everytime I turn key to ignition. Maybe it has something to do with the headlight section. Electric stuff is another "dark zone" to me so this one can be a pain. I assume the wiring harness and all the other electric components are 40 years old so this didn`t suprise me. I will be getting a new harness and other vital electric components next winter. It will take maybe a week or two to get this thing on the road if everything goes smoothly. If...

Looking back at your post from 6/22, I see the headlight out and a dangle of wires... Some even have butt splice connectors crimped on. These are a good place to begin your corrective efforts. Also, when you had the headlight out, did you inadvertently plug 2 different wire colors together? All connections are intended to be color-to-color (with a few very specific exceptions).

There is no headlight attached at the moment. Maybe this is the reason? Does the headlight have vital ground points or something that can cause this? My experiences are only with the newer sportbikes that don't need to have headlight attached to run.

Todays work:

Installed the headlight and turn signals. Checked all the connections in the headlight housing and the fuse didn't burn. And then I tried to start the thing and it started! Great moment indeed. Made me smile. And made my day.

I had some set backs yesterday. I mounted the airbox and was going to tune the carbs with carbtune, but the damn thing fired only one cylinder. I checked the plugs. Good spark in everyone. Gets gas. Points are checked. Battery is full. I don't know what is wrong here. Maybe something with the wiring harness/contacts, I don't know...Little frustration stepping in. It ran fine two days ago. Didn't do anything to it in between. Only moved it. Didn't start it. That makes me think that maybe there is still a bad connection in the harness. I was thinking if I upgrade all the electric stuff. It won't be cheap but atleast it's then done. But will it change a thing? This stuff is going to be upgraded in near future nevertheless. But it takes time to get this stuff here up north and the summer is short.

Made this invention to get this carbtune screw in the middle carbs. Worked incredibly well. My moment of pride before all went south.

You either don't have spark or aren't getting fuel to the plugs. Can't be both are right and you aren't firing. (Technically it could, but given the bike ran a day ago, that rules out the other "possibilities").

When you pulled the plug to check spark, where the plugs clean and wet, or dry and tan?

BTW, have you checked your fuel level too?

Clean and wet.
Well the fuel tank is off so i have a clear long hose doing it's job at the moment. There was fuel in the hose.

Ok. Thanks a lot. I checked the spark and it was ok. Little bit strange that there is none after I put the plugs in place. Cylinders 2-3-4 didn't fire. Any ideas what could cause something like this?

Improperly seated plug wires? Or the stock caps have come slightly loose from the wires? Or plug is not seated?

Until the new wiring harness and coils and stuff arrive I have been thinking the final color of the bike. A lot. As I told I am building this bike with my father and he would like to go with red. We have had a couple of debates about this because I would like to go with flake sunrise orange. Well at least that was the color I was thinking the most. One thing that I`m sure it has to be one of Honda's original colors. The old man didn`t disagree on this one so I`ve been looking endless amount of pictures of these bikes. There were 3 colors in the final. Flake sunrise orange, candy ruby red and candy antares red. I decided to give my father some slack and went with the candy antares red tank and cover set from Yamiya. My fathers birthday is right around the corner so this one will be his present. It better be a pleasant one.

I contacted Yamiya and asked if I could get some pictures taken from the tank in daylight before I purchase. I did. It looks just amazing. After these pictures it was an easy decision.

Not a great day. UPS #$%*ed up my tank. I didn't check the package when I got it. I was in a hurry and damn. Trying to call them tomorrow and hopefully get them to cover this up. Hopes ain't high tough...

Any ideas how to fix this? Any professional painters around here that could tell me what to do? Tank trim covers some of it.

Make a claim, assuming the package was insured (it would be silly if there was no insurance from the painter), to USPS.  It will take forever but hopefully they should pay.
