There are not listed as rebuilt. Just used "good condition". I will check the dampening when they arrive. Slikwilli, do you have a link to a rebuild kit?

So this little gem fell into my lap today. I got it for a steal! I've always wanted a sport touring bike. The deal was too good to pass up.
It is a 2001 Triumph Sprint ST 955i. Only 9000 miles on the clock. The PO installed a carbon slip-on, carbon dress up covers, new fuel pump, and new tires. It also came with all 3 color matched hard bags ($1k upgrade). I'm amazed with the bike so far. It's super comfy. I payed less for this than the cb750. 😲

I love triples.  This is pretty close to the same motor as the earlier Speed Triple.

I'm really like it too. Very smooth power. The fuel injection is a pretry nice to have too.

You may be experiencing the rings not yet seating and not a rich carb condition. How do you know its rich? How many miles are on the rebuilt motor that necessitate an oil change?

Maybe 60 miles on the rebuild. The the oil change is more due to the amount of fine shiny metal in the oil fromy the cam and rocker tower destruction. I got all the big stuff out bit it will take a few oil changes to clear it all out. The exhaust smells very gassy and may have put gas in the oil. Wet plugs also last time I checked before I adjust the pilot jets leaner. I need to pull plugs again and see if they are still wet. I also get a rich stumble at part throttle occasionally.
A ring of rare earth magnets on the ends of your oil filter will collect a ton of that lost material before it clogs the filter element.  Its super fine stuff.

After a couple months hiatus, I'm back on it!
I chopped the passenger peg mounts today to make room for the rear sets. Not much progress but it feels good. I have to finish this project so I can move on to other toys...

Ok so lets try this again...

Im in process of rebuilding these Marzocchi AG Strada shocks. Overall, they are in good shape. Just really dirty. I have rebuild kits on the way. A lucky eBay purchase on that. The kits are pretty much Unobtainium in North America. I also found some rubber bushings for the top. I just had to drill them out to fit.
One of the shocks was reassembled incorrectly by a PO. The damper shims and retainer are all bent up. Luckily, I have that kit on the way also. I think I'm going to paint them back to red. It'll throw a bit of color into my monochrome bike.

Heres a site with a scanned copy of the manual for anyone need it. http://marzocchimoto.blogspot.ca/p/ag-strada-kit-buy-it-now.html?m=1
I will probably post up a detailed how-to when I'm done.

I've also added a Joker Machine brake stay and spaced it out properly to clear the 170 tire. No more "dog leg"!

The rearsets are 90% done. I still have to sort out the brake rod. Currently, the brake stay is in the way now. I have a good idea, I just have to test it. They look #$%*in' on the bike. Now I have Tarozzi clipons and rearsets!

Ok, on with the pics!

My shock rebuild parts came in today. So I've been busy with that today. Everything's been cleaned, blasted, and primed. A couple coats of paint and I should be able to throw these Marzocchis back together. I have to remember to take pics as I go. I'll attach a couple for now.

Ok so one shock done one to go!

Here's a couple pics! The disassembled pic has the parts laid in the proper order of assembly. It looks complicated, but these shocks are really pretty simple. Refer to the manual on the site I posted earlier in this thread. I'm using 10wt fork oil in mine but the internet claims you can go as high as 30wt depending on your dampening needs.

The paint turned out pretty good for rattle can. Hopefully my stickers will arrive soon from Europe.

Thanks Sean. It took a while, but they are both finally rebuilt. Well, this was more of a restoration. Haha.

Let me know if you have any questions when you go to rebuild yours.

How do you determine the weight of shock oil you need? A thicker weight is going to be slower to work its way through the shock and result in firmer ride.  I understand you want it to be compliant and maintain contact as well as not giving you a firm ride transferring those bumps into your body but absorbing those.  A motocross or adventure bike would use a very low weight shock oil.

For me it will be trial and error. According to my (limited) internet researce on these shocks, ~5wt was used from factory. Most guys complain about them being too soft and switch to 10wt. 10wt also happens to be the same oil I run in my triumph's forks. I need to reseal one of those again. So it made sense to buy a quart of it to use on both bikes.

There isn't much literature on these old Marzocchis and the factory manual is quite vague. In theory, the better designed dampers will require thinner oil than an old shock from the stone age...
