Johnie,
I know that godfferry sells a much lighter version that will improve handling by lowering unsprung weight & I plan on getting one;I think he also may sell others,he sold me a used oem replacement piston.

You don't think so ?  Any reduction in the 'unsprung weight' of the wheels or suspension components that're attached to the wheels improves handling in vehicles and less 'spinning flywheel weight' equals quicker acceleration;similar to running w/ heavy boots or trousers on compared to shorts and lightweight track shoes.  ;)
Do a Google search on it then see if you still doubt it.. or better yet install some weights to your lower fork legs and take it for a fast ride on your favorite twisty, winding road, then take the weights off of the lower fork legs and do that same ride again and tell me which way is better for you.

Grcamna2, I understand about sprung and unsprung weight, and technically, you're absolutely correct. I just don't believe that there is enough weight difference for the average rider to tell a difference.

I imagine it would depend on how bad the terrain is and how fast the vehicle is moving.

Plus, the difference in unsprung weight would be about the same as cleaning your wheels...just saying...

I have solid stainless steel pistons in my bikes- they are a LOT heavier than the hollow oem ones - had I realised this I probably wouldn't have bought 3 of them!
I can't say i've noticed any difference in handling though,
John

When I spoke w/ godffery/Jeff he told me that there's the difference of a couple pounds of weight between the stock and his 'Phenolic' front caliper piston,if I remember correctly..

There can be no way that there is a 2 pound weight savings between the two pistons. My Oem piston doesn't weigh 2 pounds by itself!

The benefit of the phenolic is less heat transmitted to the brake fluid and it will not pit from rust.

I will post the weight of a German stainless piston from AllenBolt Frank...shortly..
With lightened drilled discs and lighter pistons, it could be two lbs.

** Stainless hollow for 750 is 150.5 grams.

 Hey Gang,
I was pointed to this discussion and thought I would try to help some with the details that I have for my parts.

The Stock pistons weigh about 7 ounces and My Phenolic Pistons are about 2.5 ounces.
(+or- because I have a cheep scale) =)

The Stock 550 Rotors are about 6 pounds (plus some for the 750) and my Drilled & thinning process takes them down to about 3.5 pounds.

I apologize for making a mistake on the weight of the caliper piston,I was 'weigh/Way'! off on that one  :o ::) :-[
I want to save as much weight on those parts as i can and misunderstood what godffery told me...
