You mentioned in an earlier post you did not find it to be a comfortable ride.  At the end of the day it is a sport bike not a couch.  When I first get back on my RC it takes me a few rides before I can go on a distance ride.  If you ride it enough you will get use to it.  I had no issues going on a week long vacation on my bike.  The only thing I was not crazy about was having the rads below my  knees on those hot days.

Yes I agree. I had not really ridden anything for about 1 year, other than the S90, because the CB was being rebuilt again...now that I am back on the road, it might be time. And the fact it was not sold could mean it was meant to be  :)

If your back and wrists can handle it, it's an amazing bike, but it's not meant to be comfortable or quick in tight stuff.  It is meant to be part of the haul ass club.

They used to make Heli-bars for them. 

As another extreme: The bartender at the Rock Store rides the rattiest 916 with risers and a handlebar -- and he rips -- but the bike looks goofy as hell.

I love the Colin Edwards bodywork.  Was the bike originally red (gas tank)?

G'Day mate, yep it's a 2 into 1 system, and makes a great sound. I was ratting thru some boxes of stuff recently and I found a NOS Moriwaki muffler that I'll eventually install to quieten it down a little, but (apart from the noise) that shorty muffler works really well.

Sadly the guy I got it from wasn't able to tell me much about it? I imagine that if I posted a pic on the RC51 site I'd probably find out all about it, someone's spent a lot of money on it, looking at all the race mods. The tank has a little rash on the top left side, nothing too horrible, but if I can eventually find another undamaged tank I'll get it painted in the same livery as the rest of the bike. ;D

If I had known when I sold my RC51, I would have sold you my undamaged spare tank (but shipping would have been a PITA).  I had "designs" on changing the bodywork over to Colin Edwards replica but I couldn't find a quality source for the bodywork (just Chinese ill-fitting junk) and I really wanted an unobtainium undertail exhaust like on the AMA and WSKB bikes.

The RC51 is a nice bike. I have a 2000 the 33rd bike off the production line. It has about 3,500 miles on it. I read the first 50 or so had the engines assembled by 1 technician (this has not been substantiated by Honda). The upper case on early 51's being autographed by a tech has been substantiated . I think I bought the last OEM fuel tank from Honda too.

Nice, mine's #161, but I've no idea how many were made in 2000? A guy on the RC51 forums in the US has #2, and has been told that it's the earliest in existence. I've had a bit of a look around and it appears that many early ones have survived, and some have done some pretty big mileage too. ;D

The stock pipes are a little sedate.  You can hear the whine of the gear-driven cams under the rumble of the exhaust.  But put on a set of new exhaust cans or full headers, and it sounds beautiful and burly.

Yeah, the stock pipes are pretty restrictive, there's a vid on youtube of a guy with just aftermarket cans getting 133.7 Rear Wheel BHP on the dyno. That's 15.7 BHP more than the stock bike's claimed RWHP. ;D

I would have loved to have the Sato high mounts or the unobtainium underseat Ti system.  I had Leo Vince pipes on mine and it sounded incredible.
