 Some type of critter got into my dually and ate the black cover off of the firewall insulation. Shame on me for leaving it out in the back driveway for a few days. Thank goodness they left the wiring intact.

Luckily my wife has a bunch of ducks and the spilled duck food keeps the critters across the driveway around the duck pen. I also have a regular pest control guy who does a great job keeping the critters under control. He likes to hang out in the shop looking at the 84' Honda VF 1000F Interceptor, he had a poster of one on his bedroom wall when he was a kid.

A short length of wire, solder, paste, shrink wrap and lot of patience got it fixed. All back together and seems OK. Error message cleared. I bet a Volvo dealer would have replaced half the car before they found it! Done for the day….

Don…. Our old farmhouse had a rickety set of basement stairs that included a loose fitting door out to the back yard. My wife had a hook at the top where she hung the vacuum cleaner hose. One weekend, we couldn’t find it anywhere. Eventually, I found a “slinky” in the basement and then realized it was the wire wrap from the hose! Some critter got in and pretty much ate the whole thing! The ends and some scraps were hidden behind the furnace!!

 I swapped the 2003 GMC Sierra taillights on my dually for a set of Chevy Silverado lights from Dorman, they come with the new wiring harness so it's a plug-in deal even though the pin pattern is different. The hardest part is getting the plastic wire hanger clips undone, but once you figure out how to turn the 90* o ring pick even that's a breeze.
 I think they look a lot better than the black plastic framed GMC version.

Marc and Alan ran the first three-hour race on Saturday morning. Alan was leading GT3 when he handed over to Marc who unfortunately tangled with a slower car in corner 5C. We straightened out the LF enough to continue and finished 4th in class.

Despite a bent lower control arm, we pushed body work back into place (more or less) and did a quick "eyeball" re-alignment. Tim and I managed to win GT3 in the Saturday afternoon race. Mixed weather on Sunday included several bouts of very wet track. I went third (1:00-3:00 pm) in dry- wet- super wet- then back to dry. At one point we were running 1st in class and 2nd over all on track. Tim finished the day in torrential rain. 1st in class, 5th overall!
Despite the adversity, this may have been the best race weekend in a very long time. Top photo is from Friday evening. A "before" pic. LF needs a lot of work.

I still managed to set “Fastest Lap” on both days!

  Seeing that Porsche reminded me of a junkyard run we made.
During the crush a car, get $$ government fiasco we were snagging parts off of dead cars (I know) and spotted a 928S Porsche in the yard. I just kept standing there looking at it. It most likely had bad head gaskets before they killed the motor with the ground glass in the oil but it seemed like such a shame to just junk it. My brother-in-law had already sold his formerly confiscated drug car 928 so I couldn't snag any parts for him.
 I got new headlights and turn signals for my 2003 GMC dually for $30. 

 Congrats on an awesome race, I'm headed out to wake our dragster out of its two month long coma and get it ready for this weekend at Cordova.

Thanks Don, have a great time at your next one! We have our final in three weeks and it’s three days. Tim and I will do the four hour race on Friday and then four of us will be doing an 8 hour race on both Saturday and Sunday. Prep starts tomorrow.

And as far as Prsches go, the 944 is a "girls car", my sister-in-law had one! If stock, only about 220hp.

Steve….. the tires were well worn, but still worked incredibly well. And only about $100 each they lasted the full eight hours.

my day wasnt as exciting!I have a self drive push mower I bought new bout 16 years ago,every few years I strip and clean regrease its wheel hub drive mechanism,has a steel drive gear with a bronze bushing!be nylon (plastic) these days?the wheel hub teeth are still good,and the classic briggs 190cc side valve motor still fires first or 2nd pull with no smoke,gets a yearly oil change castrol rx diesel,this is a Victa mower,very old aussie brand,I put a new drive belt and actuator cable on it few years ago,been trouble free otherwise,I hope to get another 16 years out of it.

Started digging into the bent body work on the LEXUS race car. Lower control arm is bent. Going to replace it and the ball joint as a precaution. Inner fender is bent too. Access will be easier than usual!

Going to repair split bumper cover and straighten the fender, for the last race weekend. The headlight is completely shattered but I think we have one more. I found some “Gorilla Tape” that is a great colour match. That brand of tape is the best stuff I have ever used. Bodywork and paint next winter!

P.S. the unseen front tip of that fender is mangled and “flat” where it wrapped around the headlamp.

Repairing splits in the plastic bumper cover for the LEXUS this afternoon. I roughen the area (from the back)with a Dremel sanding disc, then groove out the crack a bit with a pointy Dremel bit. Clean it all really well. Apply a thin layer of JB weld to the area and let it set up. Then I cut small strips of this tough drywall sanding pad and lay them across the crack, imbedded in more JB. Makes for a super strong repair. Works on side covers too!

I used it a few years ago, when I couldn’t find any fibre glass cloth. I think it’s stronger and does and excellent job.
