I got the 40 Chevy oil pan bolts on, they are nice 3/4" long and flange head so they don't fall into the socket when they are going on, pressed on the new harmonic balancer and timing pointer, I also got fel-pro blue rubber valve cover gaskets. They aren't on yet.
I used my new balancer press-on tool, the end has adapters for various crankshafts, when I pulled the tool off, the adapter stayed behind in the crankshaft in the balancer hole. It has a screwdriver slot for removal, didn't want to come out with screwdrivers and a crescent and I was starting to get that 20-minute job turned into two days feeling.
Finally, I looked in the motorcycle toolbox and found my 3/8" drive to straight blade screwdriver bit. My old, safe, craftsman impact said nope, the last chance was my newer Milwaukee 3/8" impact and it buzzed right out. Whew.
I put on the old chrome timing tab which was correct for TDC, and zeroed the engine, then I swapped the new pointer and put the adjustable point on at 0 degrees. I made white lines at 0 and 6 degrees BTDC and a yellow one at 35* to check total advance.
