Well apparently among the many still running SOHC 4 bikes, there seem to bea few Garage Queens among their ranks..

This morning to work.

Same here, there can't be many who commute on sohc4s nowadays. I do it all year round too, and sometimes  nowadays I get comments from people that I shouldn't be using an old bike like that!

Rod my K4 down to Lake Ontario and back. Only 72 miles but perfect windy roads, there and back. Just finished some work on my buddies new (to him) Honda Transalp. Nice bike, ran great.

August 24th, 2019 .  That day I took out my favorite 500 with a freshened 550 engine around the block (7 miles)  Then took out my favorite 650 around the same block . Brought them home and drained the fuel out of them and parked them in line with all the others. Multiple surgeries were to follow and if you don't know how long it will be till you can ride again....well there's just no sense in letting fuel gum up in those carbs.
Last week I refueled , reconnected freshly charged  batteries , pushed them out into the daylight and fired them up on the kickstands. I'm not allowed to be on any motorcycle until I get the surgeon's OK later on this month. So to be sure I wouldn't sneak off on one , imagine that,  the very idea of just sneaking off on one against doctor's orders,  I didn't renew my insurance or pay for the tags this season until I get the news just to be sure it wouldn't.... and it better be good news or,  or, or else I'll just go riding anyways no matter what . It's been a long, hot F'in summer without a ride, especially after being cooped up with the ones I love 24 hours day, day after day,  for months on end. I tell ya, a man has to know his limits, and I've been hanging on to the end of this rope for a long time now. Hoping for good news.

Sometime in 1994 according to my inspection sticker. Sometimes i wonder if it will ever run again, but its getting closer . Been working on it for the last couple of years, parked it with 58,000 miles or so. Time will tell.

Last fall when I drained the carbs, I've been out on the gl1000 but not the 750's. I cut down the width of the chassis jig that my firebird chassis is on. Now I can roll it outside and get them out of the shop.

been years since i've rode the 750 or the 350f.

both are sitting in the garage, with carb issues, and tune-up issues i guess. Can't get either to run.

little cb100 in the back yard kicks and runs just fine, playing around in the back yard, just last night.

got a 350 twin torn all a part with parts strung out between the shed out back, garage, and the house.

i guess my biggest issue it, i'm freaking lazy as crap, and being 100 degrees outside doesn't help much.

Dave 500 , I used to struggle with which one I wanted to ride and why not some of the others. So I narrowed it down to 10 on the road ready to fire up whenever I got the itch.....almost worked. I found that I would go to 3 of my favorites and forget to ride the others. between dead batteries and carb rebuilds I decided that I should only plate 5 of them and surely they would all get some exercise, that doesn't always work either. So now it's down to 3 and short rides for all, instead of going for a day trip on one machine and neglecting the other 2.  I spend about 2 hours on each machine any day I can ride, and most times I take the same route,  that sounds like it should be boring right? But I have found that the second ride goes a little bit faster because I take it easy on the first ride but then the 3rd trip usually ends up being the hot lap ( I know the road conditions now) . The draw back is that now I've gone way faster then I should have ... that's not the point of the ride,  I enjoy it anyways, but not as much as the first ride. So even this method is flawed too.  What to do? choices are tough. Go down to one machine? What if I want to ride a different one? Then what?  Maybe , park them all and rent a bike for the day, that way they can all stay clean and no plates, batteries or carb kits to deal with .  I bet there must be a flaw in that plan or everyone would do it.  How are we supposed to decide?

To be honest, maybe a year ago? :-[ I had fit a set of drag bars, and decided they SUCKED after about 25 miles. Then, I decided to fit a single Ducati rotor and two piston caliper onto the left side of the wheel to replace the less than optimal "proof of concept" right side caliper, but this would require machining a new spacer for the rotor and a new caliper mount, as well as replacing the leaking fork seals since the left side would have leaked onto the rotor. I got the handle bars switched back to the clubmans I've had for decades, and the fork seals replaced, and I'm about to say #$%* it and just put the "proof of concept" caliper back on so I can ride the damn thing. >:(

Dave, That sounds like a fantastic idea!
But I don't have a dirt bike...yet. I wonder which one I should get?  I've always liked the Elsinores,  but then I also like the KX's and even a couple of yamaha models...There has been a suzuki or two that I liked back in the day, but I've been seeing a few bultacos and huskies around that are still very appealing to me. This notion seemed flawless , it seems so simple, how could it possibly go wrong ? but then, how are we supposed to decide?

Get an old early 70's Suzuki TM400 Cyclone and when you heal up you can get back to enjoying your road bikes  ;)  http://www.off-road.com/dirtbike/suzuki-tm400-cyclone-the-most-dangerous-bike-ever-built-16159.html
I had one back in the day for a short time. Preferred the 250's after that one.

I got the licensed ones out, rotated the fuel and took a few rides. Those flashlight battery powered fuel pumps are very handy, $15 at the "as seen on TV" display at Menards. I took 90% of the fuel out of the tanks, put it in cans and replaced it with fresh no alcohol gas (with seafoam and a little 2 stroke oil) to the bikes with wrinkle tanks. The experienced gas will go in the lawn tractor, hot rod and whatever.
The 70 has fouled #1 again. Arg. Thought I finally had it right.
