Roger that Bombermann,
I should work on my bike for next year.  I mean this year.   But it's always a last-minute thrash so I might as well wait till the last minute, right.  ;D

Bonneville bound again.  Heading out tomorrow the 20th, should arrive Friday afternoon and setup pits. Bike was ready a few weeks ago which is worrisome since typically it's a thrash till the last minute.  This just feels wrong.

Last year we bumped up three records racing modified classic 500 classes but all in fourth gear, MPS-CG, MPS-CF, and M-CF.  Shifting into fifth actually lost rpms slowly.   Since then I've picked up a close ratio 5th gear from Dresda500 on the forum here, dropped that into the bike.  Also picked up a 36 and 37 rear sprocket.  I only had smaller sprockets last year because, well we want to go fast right.   Our best run was 123+ but we didn't try to compete in Modified classic gas M-CG since that record was 128 and we weren't going to get there.   So we have our sights set on that this year, get fifth gear to pull and run over 128, would love to hit 130.  Still can't get my AFR gauge to act right, I may have screwed the sensor up with leaded additives.

Anyway, the promaster van is loaded and the wife is ready to hit the casinos.

    Our best run was 123+
What was your RPM, was it in 4th gear, and what sprockets were you running? The tach is your best guide for gearing: if the best speed has the RPM higher than the engine peak horsepower RPM, it means you need to go to taller gearing, and if the engine won't pull to the peak RPM like you experienced with 5th gear, you need to go to lower gearing. It doesn't matter which combo of sprockets and gears put the engine in the sweet spot. ;) Take every sprocket you have. Did you ever get the bike on a dyno?
Good luck, and keep us posted.

Found it... ;D
Scottly,
Probably went into the measured mile at 10,500, maybe crept up to 10,700 by the exit.  I was hitting 12k in 2nd and 3rd.  Planned to run go pro which I always have capturing the tach also but had battery problems, got busy with just trying to get out on track and left the gopro alone.  Sometimes I find the gopro's memory is better than mine.  But the jetting change from 105s to 100s definitely picked up power and revs on the last two runs.  Headwinds and tailwinds have quite the effect also.

Rich, what sprockets were you running in 4th? Since the bike pulled to 12K in 3rd, but only managed 10.7K in forth, I suspect the gearing was too high. I did some digging around and found a couple of reports of heavily modified 500s with a peak HP above 11K. Have you got a rear with 1 or 2 teeth more?

I've cleaned an O2 sensor by soaking it in no lead gas, but it's best to replace. There are parts store equivalents if you research it a little.
I bought a clone bosch O2 sensor for cheap on ebay, the box says germany but the package shipped from china. Have not tried it yet, it was more a $30 research deal just to see how good the clone is. The box is perfect, I haven't used the part yet.
