The work on the wiring harness is getting closer to the end, not quite done yet but it´s close.
Has taken far to long, a testament on how boring I find electrical work to be...
A couple of meters of wire has been found redundant even though all functions of the stock wiring is retained.

Also found a bottom end that I picked up for spares.
The top end parts are easier to find as parts from the XV1100 (Virago) can be used.
The bottom end is more difficult as the XV1100´s are shaft drive and hence uses completely different cases.

The wiringloom is now finished, got a few wires from the dash that needs to be removed (temp- and fuellevel).
Managed to find space for all stock relays and CDI-unit under the seat and tank, and the new loom is well hidden from view.
Right now it´s missing a front brake hose, two airfilters, and 4 out of 6 bolts for the brake disc, otherwise its all there.
As it stands right now it tips the scale at 183,5 kilos with engine oil but without fuel.

The project hasnt seen daylight in three years so I figured I would wheel it out and snap a few pics out in the open:

Well, if it works is still to be seen... haven't fired it up yet and much less ridden it since the teardown started back in 2019.
But my goal has been to shed as much weight as I can without going to exotic materials and such, and in the end come up with a bike that I can use to explore all the gravel roads and tracks in the area.
Forgot to weigh the stock bike before I tore it down but according to spec the stock dry weight is 220 kilos, and if that is correct mine is down almost 40 kilos now.

I also picked up another -81 TR1 the other day, pretty much stock except for the crash bars and panniers.
Runs well with only 45000 km on the clock.
I will remove the crash bars, pannier rack and fuel and put it on the scale, then I will now the true numbers :)

Nice work. Not my style, but I can certainly appreciate the craftsmanship put into it.
1989 FJ1200, 1983 Yamaha Venture (Vmax conversion), 1985 VF 750F Interceptor, 1982 CB650SC, 1988 Corvette convertible (Z52), 1983 Mustang GT, 2009 Mini Cooper Clubman.Couple more lying around but this is long enough already!

Removed the crashbars, pannier rack and emptied the tank on the stocker.
It tipped the scale at 231 kilos...
That means that I've shed more than 47 kilos off the build  :)

Do your Swedish model XV1000 motorcycles all come with chain drive? I like the chain drive on your bike.
I like your retrofitting of the Mikuni carbs much more than the poor performing original XV1000 Hitachi OEM carbs.

No, not all XV1000 were chaindriven, it was only the TR1 that had chaindrive.
The Virago and Midnight Special were shaftdriven, as well as all the XV750's.
The TR1 was only made between 81-83 and the chaindriven XV was dropped from production by 1984. It was never a big seller so there's not too many around, and that is why i picked up the other one when i popped up locally at a more than fair price.

This summer will be used to run it to bring out all the bugs that most likely will pop up. The carbs work well but is not jetted yet, runs fairly rich at the top end but it idles smoothly and packs a punch in the low and mid range right now.
The plan is to tear it down this fall and work out the bugs, get the chassis ready för paint and  the engine an overhaul.
So, next summer should see a finished product  :)

Dont now why the pics only shows as links on my last post. I'll attach them again in this comment to see if the thumbnails will appear this time.

Thanks, glad you like it  :)

Both the bike and the shop has been a lot of work to build, and it feels really good to be able to put them to good use.

I've now put 500 kilometers on the bike on all sorts of terrain.
Gravel roads, sandy trails, paved highways and everything in between, and so for nothing has fallen off or broken.
Its fun to ride and work surprisingly well on the gravel. I built it to have something to explore the backroads around here but I really didnt expect it to perform this well  :)

Will continue to ride it and fettle with the jetting, thinking about installing a wideband lambda to get some feedback.

A couple of pics:

Almost 2000 km"s done on all kinds of terrain.
Raised the needles two steps and that worked wonders for the low and midrange.
The cheap dash failed so I disassembled the stock tacho and fitted some LED's for idiotlights. Will probably skip the tacho alltogether and just run a bicycle computer as speedo and a separate idiot light cluster.
But so far so good!

The road is leading into a huge military training area, filled with great gravel roads and single tracks... unfortunatley off limits to the general public (me...).
I was out trying to find a route around it to get to the other side, but was forced to give up and take the paved road instead when I got to that gate.
But finding out where all these tracks and roads leads is the reason I built the bike, and after 27 years on the pavement it is a treat to find new places in the vincinity  :D

The plan was to get the bike torn down and painted during the past winter, but other things got in between so I'll get another season of riding in and tear it down coming winter instead.
Only thing done this winter is a change to a better tank I found nearby and snatched up 👍
