I wish I was a bit closer to Mid-Ohio

honestly, the swap meet sucked this year. I consider myself lucky that i found almost everything i needed but it was slim pickings. The vendors set up on Thursday and they get first dibs...everyone shops everyone and the really good #$%* is gone before the first day open to the public. I know a guy who bought 3 full sets of 750 exhausts all yesterday. The Honda prices were high, rough, non running, non titled, I dont think I saw a single 750 or 550 under $1500....#$%*...maybe even 2k.

I went down to Barbour Vintage swap meet once back in 2012';I think now they're in Oct.
Do you have any local swap meets in Michigan for vintage Japanese parts ?

not really, we have a solid base of people who buy and re sell though, I can pretty much find anything if i look hard enough around here.

VMR paints will cost me about 180 plus shipping...thinkin about painting some new repo 750 covers for the brown body kit.

I was thinking the same thing about the gold kit but after some research and some guys on here who've tried the gold, it seems like its more of a starlight gold or the results they yield just seemed too light and not enough of the orange. Ill keep looking for oem stuff for the gold kit.

headlight bucket $40
fork ears $5
cb550 gas tank $65 - was asking $75
caliper $40
found a brand new shoei F2 fairing in white with hardware in plastic for 80 but didnt take it.

Yeah Shtone, it seems most of the "candy gold" paint is different from what we are generally familiar with on the 750s.  Not sure what the trick is to achieve the orangeish hue you see on the k1s.   I think some experts claim there was at least 2 different candy golds over the years for 750s...maybe different forrign markets fading etc all plays into it
If it works good, it looks good...

Pulled the K1 front end today and replaced it with another early front fork system thats naked. New fluid in the forks, seals dont leak, the unicorn triple was kept on so that the mileage matches anything i put on the motor once its running, stock ball bearings in the neck, new back tank rubber now the seat closes nicely, waiting on a new seat cover to show up....i didn't actually buy the cover plus the foam, decided to just try the cover and existing foam.

Got the new head light bucket on its looks good.

Thinking about taking the bike to the shop so i can polish out the swing arm, rims, spokes and for lowers all in one shot, install new tires....maybe have Phil do the tune up. Im not going to try starting this until the handle bars and switches are sorted out. My number 3 pipe wont tighten down at the exhaust clamp, the other three spacers allow the headers to bolt down nice and tight but not number 3, you can see its comes loose at the bottom too and slips out.

Edit: took the wheels off the k1 and up to the shop, removed the tires, deciding to hand polish both wheels and install new rubber, back onto the bike. I have to pull the wires through my 550 bars if i wanna use them on this for the pre drilled holes..I almost want to go back to some higher bars on this thing.

does anyone think the wheels on this k1 would look better on my black bike, and my black wheels on my black bike would look better on this k1...Im thinking the black rims will play nicely with the black stripe on the gold tank and the silver spokes will play off the motor well.

The black rims with stainless spokes will darken the bike overall, but also make the motor pop more.  Maybe you can take the front wheel off your other bike and prop it in front of the chrome rim wheel to see the color impact.

Found one fork ear, need a left one if anyone has one. Got the pre drilled 400f bars off the 550 for the k1.

the replacement k1 seat has red foam, its really, really brittle..makes me wish i purchased new foam for this lol. I think im going going to put a layer of nice thick foam over it before i recover it.

edit: I like swap meet prices much more. I found a gold left fork ear but they want 300 for it, the left side cover seems like it will take 200-300 to win the bid on it so thats out of my price range too. Im wondering if the fork ear is priced correctly? its got a small dent and and paint chips but its a nice patina and its original.

Interesting rear wheel and brake, lots of work there.
Very, very different.
Someone had a lot of time on their hands.

air heart rear MC and rear caliper, Kosman rear quick change hub, common parts back in the day and in the dirt bike, tracker race scene ive found out.

400f bars installed, both control switch wires are run through the bars, throttle cables hooked up and adjusted they feel good, wires in headlight are hooked up except for turn signals.

need to:
mount new rubber on wheels
resurface rear rotor, maybe the fronts too
change oil
shorten clutch cable
Ive got the new seat cover loosely fitted and need to install the metal trim and what not
considering a different MC because of how close it is to the gauges but it will work for now
add air to the shocks
rebuild petcock
new fuel line

continue seeking gold and garnet brown body work.

thats all for now.

It fired up, floats need adjusting gas leaking like crazy, need new rubber velocity stacks from carb to airbox.

number 3 header is basically just hanging there so consider number 3 header not even on lol, the idle screw was super tight so i havent adjusted that to see if it will idle smoothly, dont really wanna try until the carbs are no longer leaking tho so im gonna yank those off again and go through them one more time...prolly have my tires mounted by time that happens.

I can take it off in the back so it’s not so tight and try it again.

edit: I loosened the back side of the cover so its not so taunt now, it looks much better than what have pictured above

I'm glad WIDEAWAKE kept mentioning CMS. After I pick up the fork ears from him, I'm going to buy a matching set of gold and garnet brown covers and complete both body kits. Buying parts individually is sweeeeet.

This bike here pictured is nudging me to going with black wheels on this k1/gold scheme....I think my black bike would be better suited for touring with its 19 inch front wheel again.

options...

im really tempted to take the very in good shape fork gators and trim chrome ring off the original k1 front end and use it on the gold set up...

80 bucks for oem gators....smh.

edit:

took apart the original forks and im just seeing the lower triple is chromed, it was just covered in dirt lol. All of the mounting hardware is chrome as well like engine bolts and triple tree bolts. I took apart the forks for the fork rings and gators.

Finally built up the front end on the K1, I dissembled the original front end and took the lower triple, fork gators, and chrome trim rings. The stock forks, fork ears and head light bucket are in storage with the brown tank and original seat.

The top triple was sanded with 360 grit, and polished out so the chromed lower and top triple look the part, the petcock is rebuilt, the carbs were removed and float levels were set to 26mm....they were WAY OFF which explains 3/4 of them leaking....this thing should idle nicely tomorrow.

If I sell the cb500 this weekend then this bike can get finished by next week :D

i tried installing the oval air filter/breadbox on the the bike today but I forgot you have got cut the two mounting tabs for the stock airbox for it to fit....soooooooooo #$%* that cause im not chopping anything on this frame.

I still have an issue with the carbs, i turn on the petcock and the fuel comes spilling out of the fuel line that attach to the petcock? so something is blocked or clogged in the carb? Idk...gotta take them off again so the bike didnt idle today it just started for second and then i had to shut it down. Pulled off the 4into1 and tried installed the hooker again but damn that #$%* was really hard to get on, number 2 pipe isnt even secured on there and I need those exhaust clamps installed as well so the pipe has to come off again.
