So hear’s a good one. Talk to a very experienced tech at my local Honda shop. He said just get it good and hot for a couple of trips and the idle will “fix itself”. Mmmm.

That must be a feature of the computer..

Must be. We’ll see. It does rev high for a few minutes and then drops it in stages.

Maybe like cars with fuel injection etc. Higher rev when cold to be lower when warmed up.

My car has some kind of a throttle reset at ignition on too.
Throttle by wire which means no wire.

“Throttle by wire which means no wire.“ How True!

Per…. A lot of the English language makes no sense. Great example.

Yes, that one is fun. ;D
It took a while to realize that the throttle is partly electrical, not mechanical all the way.

Modern motorcycles have that too with adjustable throttle response via a switch.
Race, rain etc.

I miss that on my K6 with very direct flatslide carbs. I have grinded the plastic throttle roll a little for a little softer take offs.

Swedish has some strange expressions too.
Many languages adopt english for newer stuff.

This is a backdoor approach to getting us used to A.I. controlling our vehicles for us and the way we operate them. It must be a good thing, I mean just look at how the  Terminator handled that Harley!

Throttle by wire which means no wire.

It is true that modern systems have a warm-up mode in the tune that raises RPMs for the first few seconds after a cold start up, but they should start to drop within a few seconds.  Pretty much everything these days has 'throttle by wire' where the throttle is operated by a servo that is controlled by the ECU/PCM/TPS, the signals from which are transmitted by a wire (or 3).  So while it is fun to make fun of English (a language that is a mishmash of other languages) it makes sense in this case.

I miss that on my K6 with very direct flatslide carbs.

I was thinking about that yesterday when riding the '75 750F.  The carburetors still function like they should, the only thing I've had to do them is replace the needle jet sets because of wear.  At 168,980 miles the bike is on its third set.  On the other hand, I am having trouble with the CV carbs on my '90 CBR1000F.  The hanging high RPM issue is back after a short absence.  I believe the problem is with the 34 year old rubber diaphragms getting old and stiff.  The simpler 750 carbs are fine and the newfangled CV carbs are showing their age.  The diaphragms are NLA from Honda so I have rolled the dice and ordered some aftermarket ones from feebay.  They are supposed to be here today.  We will see how it goes, but I have never had any luck with aftermarket carb parts.  Seems like to work right the diaphragms will have to have the correct pliability so they work right with the springs and what are the chances of chinese ones being right?

Greg,a person this past week mentioned siriusconinc.com up in Canada for good quality rubber diaphragms as having the correct pliability? and able to let the slides raise as OEM did;I believe they're Made in Japan.  Have you ever ordered from them ? I haven't so far.

John,I was trying to contact them to confirm if they had a product;it looks like they don't 'do phone' anymore and I've been waiting for a while for an answer to my email.
Do you know if they sold-out to another country? Or are they still up in Kitchener,ON. ?

Bill…… No idea. I see their ads locally, but I buy from them very rarely. I ask around.

Thanks gents, I looked at their website.  I'll inquire with them to see what they have if the ones I am getting don't work out.

Hey Greg...they are a big seller on eBay and have some carb parts, didnt see diaphragms after a quick search...

Put a good +150 km run on the Varadero today. The high idle has “self corrected” and the new sprockets and chain completely eliminated the annoying “thrumming” noise/vibration I’d been hearing last fall. Bike ran really well and I like it a lot.

Gave the Varadero its first oil change. The drain plug is in the left rear corner of the pan (wet sump), so I left it on the side stand for a few days. Slid a 2” X 4” under the front wheel to get full drainage. No more Mobil 1 4T Synthetic (ridiculously priced in Canada). Going back to the recommend Honda GN4.

Ordered the correct “204” spin on oil filter, but when I removed the WIX 51358 filter that was on the bike, noticed that it’s at least 50% larger than what I had. Checked the internet and found some guy that takes these filters apart and measures them to the last strand of filter media….. He concluded the WIX filters are superior. Took his advice and found one. Who knows, can’t hurt.

My wife has only been on the back of my bike on a very few occasions. Since we were teenagers, she’s always ridden her own bike, but not so much lately…..

Last year, she enjoyed one ride on the Varadero and suggested a backrest would be nice. Today I fitted the top box (I never use it, makes getting on a chore) and started looking around the shop/shed. Found an old sissy bar that was fitted to my first K8 (+40 years ago!). Pulled off the pad, cleaned it up and mounted it to the front face of the top box. Pictures next time, it looks great, no more excuses!

I bought a MC specific backpack that has highly reflective cloth built in as a Christmas gift to myself. I don't have to stap a bag behind me to carry a water bottle or any food or other things within reason to it 35L capacity.  Really made a difference on how high I would have to swing my leg over the seat. With winter and arthritis movement is more painful and sometimes more difficult, so it was nice only needing to raise my leg about 34 inches or horizontal to go over the seat and rear of the bike. Granted any trips for food supplies from grocery are not going to be helped and I may have to be careful that I don't push myself too far forward with stuff on back and the backpack...

Hope your wife likes the backrest sissy bar...
David- back in the desert SW!
