This was the first bike I sit on...that I can remember  ;D It was my Dads....not sure if it was a Triumph or a Honda....he had quite a few back then.

My first motorcycle was a 1975 Honda XR 75. Loved that bike. Only major mishap was when I hit a half buried cinder block that kicked me over into a 4ft deep ditch......and the ditch was full of water. Only thing showing of the bike was the left hand grip. Had to go get Dad to help me pull it out.  ;D Off to the Honda shop to get drained and flushed. I thought I had a pic of it stored on the PC but cant seem to find it. Let me do some looking.

Here's mine, a '69 CB350. Physically, it was not a match made in heaven, much too small, but probably was a good choice as far as a first bike to learn to ride and crash on.

First and only (knock on wood) crash was on the 350. I was returning home via US-23 after dark. The exit ramp I used had a slight S-turn to it which I mis-judged, while going too fast ::). Got off into the gravel and that's all she wrote. Down in an instant and thankfully the Bell did its job.

Since I couldn't kill myself on the 350, I decided to move up to a 750, which I still own.

A 1965 Triumph 650 that I purchased in 1972 for $500 as I just got my license. That was a big mistake having bit off way more than I chew, especially for a first bike. Good thing that the local Norton-Triumph-BSA dealer was more than willing to put up with an enthusiastic (dumb) beginner like me. However, I stuck with it and in the two years of ownership along with the help of my "Big Bike Magazine" subscription, it got mildly customized with: Bates upswept mufflers, 16" Harley rear wheel, shorty Z-handlebars, wild flame pearl paint job and a trip to the chrome platers. I don't see any more English bikes in my future. One was enough.

The first that I ever actually *owned* is the '75 Trident that I still need to rebuild.  That led to me buying a running bike shortly after, my '78 Yamaha SR500.  That was all just last summer.  When my wife thought she might ride the Yamaha, I bought the '78 750K that I now use as my daily ride.  All in the space of about two or three months.  The wife ended up buying an '02 Shadow VLX 600 instead of riding the Yamaha.

I first rode on little Honda 70s and 50s when they became popular in the early '70s.  A friend, Gary something-or-other, got one of each as rather extravagant bar-mitzvah gifts!  Of course, all of us wanted to ride them, and did.  Then my friend Dale's dad got a Lambretta scooter.  We rode that in the fields like a dirt bike.  Then my friend James Didier had a Honda CB100 (?).  That was the first 'real' motorcycle I learned to ride on.  We used to ride two up on that little thing, sometimes to our afterschool job making backpacks for Cannondale.  Then someone got a Suzi 360 (?) that I got to ride a bit, along with a Rupp minicycle that I rode at the same time.  When I moved to Israel in '76 at age 18, I pretty much stopped riding.  Then, just last summer the bug bit again with that Triumph in need of rehabilitation, and it's gone on from there.  I blame my wife for all that.   ;D

The best story I can think of w/ the little Morini was this - Italy has a thousand political parties.  I would go by their local headquarters and trade a pack of American cigarettes for campaign posters - the kind they put up on walls all over town.  This was the 70's and kids liked cool posters.  One time I went by the MSI (Italian Socialist Movement - the Fascists) to trade for a poster.  They wanted me follow them to a rally.  I was only 15 and didn't want to say no to a bunch of Fascists so I said yes.  After a few blocks I ditched them but they started chasing me in an Alfa sedan.  I only had maybe 60cc and Rome is very hilly.  I tried to go down hill as much as possible for every down there is an up and they'd catch up.  Finally I went down the long stairs at Piazza Euclide and lost them or they gave up.  My Dad, an Army Officer, laughed and said they were just trying to scare me.  They did but I still have the poster.

My first was a 1977 CB550K.  Bought it off my friend, Andy.  The Andy stories could go on forever - this is the guy who bought every car (a Fiat and two VW Fox's - great cars, eh?)  I owned up until he disappeared - either to Jail or Colorado best I can figure.

The bike was something he bought a few years earlier because someone talked him into it.  He hardly ever rode it.  Sold it to me when he was in one of those 'need money' moments which were often.  I had never ridden a motorcycle before that time; took it out first day I owned it and almost wrecked it, so signed up for the MSF course, learned to ride and got my license in the same four days.  I still own that bike even though I sold it back to Andy 8 years ago; he kept it stored in my garage after the sale and we never got around to officially transferring title - though I did get the money - then he vanished and left the bike behind.

My second bike was a Yamaha RD400 which I still own.  My third bike (running - there is a non-running RD350 [also sold to Andy and also still in my garage] and CB550K in the mix somewhere) was a 1975 CB750K which I still own.  Then I got married again and had a kid late in life and, well, guess I'm stuck with what I have.  Not a bad group of bikes to be stuck with.
Well Glen...I didn't get a chance to talk about your bikes when I met you and you sure don't show no pics of them on the forum (why not?.....we wanna see your bikes man!!!!!) I would like to see pics of your RD's......I never owned one but have always admired them.

A Cushman scooter of some ancient era,  my dad rebuilt a lawnmower engine to put into it, and i rigged a pulley type clutch  (we had a huge junk pile on the farm) and belts to drive the countershaft...no brake...  my first REAL bike was a '68 Ducati 350 that would literally put me over the handlebars if I kickstarted it wrong.  I wore it out then made a motocrosser out of it.

If I remember, and it was long, long ago, my first bike was a 1969 Honda S90. I spent about as much time fixing and tinkering (fixing usually because of my tinkering) than riding it. But when the temperature and humidity were just right and the pavement was smooth and maybe even sloped down just a bit, I could strip down to a light tee-shirt and cut-offs, put my belly button on the seat, with my chin on the fuel cap and open her up. Straining my eyes to look downward without lifting my head I could get her wound up to 60 MPH (assuming the speedo was right). I didn't really care how accurate the speedo was, this was way fast (and maybe just a little wobbly) and I was indestructible at 14!

Technically it was a Rupp minibike, but for all practical purposes it was a brand new (1972) Honda SL100. I loved that bike!

I rode it everywhere, much to my mother's chagrin. One day I was on a major 6 lane road in town, travelling behind an 18 wheeler when I looked up and there she was in her car, waving me over with a stern look!

One day on the way to school (with my buddy behind me on his Suzuki TL90), I was turning left at an intersection when a lady in a VW bug tried to pass me (on the left!  :o). Fortunately I turned into her door instead of her hitting me with her front end.

I remember laying on the ground with the SL on top of me, and she gets out of her car freaking out. She said "Look what you did to my car! And now I am going to be late for work!"

Grrrr, what a b*tch she was.

Luckily I suffered no injury and the bike was fine. Her car however had a huge dent in the door! At least there was some justice in the world (for one say at least).

After that, my parents forbade me from riding on the street, so seizing the opportunity - and the next best thing! - I stripped off the street parts, went to Preston Petty flexible fenders, a Bassani open header, and wider motocross bars. I was a real Walter Mitty on the tracks on non race days. I was absolutely convinced that a thumper could compete against 2 stroke bikes. I was a good enough rider that I managed to out drive a lot of the other riders, but in the end, the 2 strokes were way too fast.

Those were the days!

74 350 F that my granddad had found in an abandoned storage unit.  Didn't run so they let me have it (told my mom that I'd never get it running).  I missed many classes my senior year of college from pulling all-nighters after work learning how to make the thing run.  This was before the internet and easy access to info so I had to order the book from the local honda dealer.  Had her running within 2 weeks ;D
Spent the next couple months working late nights, after classes and my full time job, in the ridiculously small basement of my rental.  Had to move the washer and dryer out of the way to fit the bike down there.  Frame-up rebuild, new pistons, rings, etc.  Rode her for about 4 months until I bought a 2000 Honda ACE 750 as a graduation present to myself and sold the little bike to my brother who swore he'd take great care of it.  It ended up in the ditch the first trip out and is now stored in my parents garage until I can get it back and start all over....  Will be good to see the old girl again.

Mine was an '82 Suzuki GN125. A good runner and a great first bike. Light, nimble, slow. Had it for less than a week before I ran wide in a corner and separated my right shoulder and sprained my left ankle.  >:( :-[ Bent the front rim and handle bars.

Kept the zook for about a month and picked up my CB550. Best decision I've ever made.  ;D

'72 - '73 Suzuki GT 750 "Water Buffalo"  Mom wouldn't let me have a cycle when I was younger....probably a wise decision after seeing what I was doing on my fleet of bicycles.

Bought a trailer full of boxes labeled Suzuki GT 750 for 75 bucks back in '88 spent a few months piecing the "good" parts together to make a pretty good rider....  Big heavy beast of a bike....  Those 750 2-strokes had a great sound to them.  Still wish that I had never sold it.
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

First set of reliable wheels was a '66 Dodge Dart GT . I do not recall how many basket-cases came home in that cavernous trunk. One was a CB450 . First running m/c was a CT70 . Transporting the 70 to where the fun was made for a dilemma - on its side in the trunk, where all the oil leaked out; or take out the back seat cushion and stand it up there. Worked great, except that a sudden stop was good for a whack on the head from the handlebars. Sold the 70 for twice what I paid, with a quarter of the compression.

These are the only pics I have of my first motorcycle, a Candy Blue Green K0. I got it in May of 70, rode it through the summer, and sold it in October, after I heard of the improvements coming with the K1. It may be the very first day I got it, I didn't ride around with that ski parka for very long before I got my leather. A young lady, a high school friend, took the photos and was kind enough to give me the "Bonus Photo".

I dont have the s/n, and don't know where it is. All that I know is that I sold it to a Redford township police officer who was quite a bit older than me. I sure would like to have it, and have it looking like that, today.
