'75 CB750F into a Cafe?
« on: October 09, 2007, 10:18:32 PM »
I just bought my first RUNNING Honda CB750- A 1975 F-model Super Sport in excellent running condition.  Will this bike make a good Cafe-style CB750 ??

Mostly original with 22K miles, It has been repainted a non-original color and a windjammer was added in the early 1980's.  It also has a JC Whitney 4-1 header on it now,  but the nice original head pipes come with it (minus the muffler).  Also comes with a new-in-the-Honda box gas tank (paint is a candy orange color- The factory color of this bike).  It runs great with no blue smoke from the exhaust. All electrics and lighting work. An NOS lower tree/stem also a part of the package. I paid $775 for the bike, including the extra parts. All of the chrome is excellent.

What are the positives and negatives of the F-series bikes- especially a first year 1975?

Thanks in advance!
John

Sweet find excellent price. The new tank is worh prob half of the bike. :) I ride with a 75 rider RxmanGriff and only thing is he has mentioned is the back brake can or is touchy. Can lock up kinda easy it is a double piston setup. My 77 is a single piston caliper.

As others have sais that NOS tank is worth a bunch.  If I had the original stuff I would probably try to restore it.  My 1979 CB650 was all original and in excellent condition so I elected to leave it pretty much stock and original.  I found a nice 1973 CB500 to turn into a cafe.  Still...  Even with the CB500 I am not cutting anything on it and keeping and preserving all of the original parts in case I or someone else wants to restore it in the future.

Just my 2 cents.

I wouldnt trash the in-the-box tank as its hard to find such things -if you dont want it I would certainly buy it from you! I already have a candy orange tank but its faded so looking for a replacement. PM me if this is an option.

cheers
Andy

Well, my 76 F did a fairly decent job of being cafe'd out, so I don't see why a 75 couldn't.

Yeah, that bike has one of the best rear brakes I've ever ridden. Dual pistons deffinately stops the rear wheel from spinning (take that as you will). It's kind of too bad the front brake only has half the power.

Someone had posted here that the 75 CB750F is actually the rarest of the SOHC 750 line up as it was only made in limited numbers.
