Cleaning, painting and polishing.

Well I spent all of sunday cleaning the front end bits of my 72 cb500. Hardest part was freeing up the forks from the lower clamp. Rust had set in and made it a difficult task. All the chrome came out nicely.

As did stripping and repainting the black bits. But my plastic headlight housing has lots of little imperfections on it that wont ever make this bike a true show stopper. But I guess she isnt really meant to be. After I get her all cleaned up she will be my main rider/commuter.

As for the forks...

What should I do with the top part? I was thinking just use a bit of POR15, to stop the rust, especially since it will all be hidden.

Also, How do I get the instrument pods apart? Id like to paint them too. Note the chips.

Start with some 1000 grit steel wool with a light chrome polish and see where you end up. Should get most of that poo off.
Try a small area 1st to see what you end up with.  Go from there.
