In his description he states that it will need a new clutch soon and that Old Bike Barn is the place to go for cheap replacement parts.  WTF? Wake up Carpy :P

Maybe it was a monkey with a nailgun...

I was stumped by it when checking out the auction yesterday.

Do people bang on Carpy because he makes a living doing what he loves, or because he makes a living doing what he loves instead of hanging out on forums?
It took 10 years but she's finally done!

yep, the attention to detail is amazing...  bashed in?  nah.

monkey w/ a speed drill?  you bet... but, it's only one part on an otherwise well done carpy cafe.

Do people bang on Carpy because he makes a living doing what he loves, or because he makes a living doing what he loves instead of hanging out on forums?

Chill out there Kevin, I wasnt bashing Carpy, but my immediate thought when I saw this bike was that the tank was bashed in and in my opinion didnt look that great - it just lookes dented to me. I posted it here for others to view it as there are many cafe lovers out there who might appreciate it. After all this is what Forums are for.

And dont worry I ride plenty as well  8)

cheers

Im sure the bike is put together well but it is hideous looking. I know looks are subjective but the checkerboard stripes and purple visor have got to go.

I have to agree. The look doesn't work for me either...

Some of the bikes Carpy does appear to be ground-up, frame-off, meticulous builds, such as the ones he has commisioned.  And apparantly, others he just kind of cleans them up, gets them running pretty good does a garage cafe job out of them and sells them on eBay to make a quick buck.  This appears to be obne of the latter.

In my opinion some of his bikes look very well done and very tastefull, but some others he uses way too many gimmicks such as Cafe, Ace, and checkerboard stickers, etc...

The guy is talented and is capable of making a great bike, but they are not all well build, frame-off customs.  Many on this forum have built just as nice or nicer bikes.

you said it brother ,,, i like some of carpys bikes , and then some of them are really gimmick-y , i would know it's a cafe even if it did't say cafe really big on the side ,... matter of fact i'm shocked that this one doesnt .

he also does the dented gas tanks very well , with the exception of this one ,
i respect the craftsmanship, but this time he fell a little short (and he knows it, or he would ask for more money)

my main problem with carpy is that he's so damn cocky about his craft , to say "i relit the flame" dropped him a few cool points in my book.  but to each his own

hey guys... i may not be a moderator anymore but i'd like to offer a small suggestion...

carpy is a member on our forum (or at least he was in the past although, not a very active poster) so, we might want to keep that in mind when replying to this thread.
i'm sure he doesn't mind the feedback when posed constructively.

How can he make any money at that price? If it were a hobby that would be another matter. I guess it could be a consignment but it don't look like it.

Shows it can be done with a DOHC as well as a SOHC.  No doubt Carpy has in a way relit the flame on the Cafe's via his website and saved numerous SOHC's especially the unloved F's from being broken up and scrapped.  He inherited the bike - means not all of the work on it was done by him.

i was keeping that in mind , i know he's a member and i still stand by what i said. Carpy is a good guy i've had several conversations with him. he definitely knows up from down when it comes to cafes . and he also knows exactly how cocky he is (just ask him).
i understand your just trying to keep the peace , but you have to understand that we don't all agree. and a debate is just that .
although i have seen threads that were centered around slinging sh#% at Carpy. thats not what i was doing

I have no axe to grind with Carpy and am quite indifferent to cafes but that tank looks like dookie!  :P
The bike looks like it was thrown together to make a quick buck. IMHO

This is not a show bike, he states that, and it’s priced accordingly... He is not trying to sell a show bike.

One mans NIGHTMARE is another mans WET DREAM..

Good there is enough variety to go around, ie, there was discussion about pipes on here that I wouldnt run if you paid me.. but hey different strokes for different folks... we all have choices..

I dont mind at all if someone dishes it out on a forum as long as they dont go "SCREAMING LITTLE GIRL" on us when someone starts handing it back...

One question: How on earth does a young whipper snapper like yourself have a clue as to what we (collectively or individually) can or can not do?

Objective criticism....as long as it IS that is part of free speech. I've bought Tshirts from Carpy back in the day....no problem. He is well known now ( Green Day bike, Cycle World etc) and more power to him. I stand by my comment about the drilled holes....a 5 year old could do that. I'd challenge Carpy to build a bike like mine (obviously and especially the engine part). I do think the price was high.

Um, I know that I participated in this mess with my monkey comment but come on.  What's wrong with the guy turning around a bike he got on the cheap to make some cash?  I have the upmost respect for someone who is able to make some cash while exercising their passions.

There's nothing wrong with it. It's the way of capitalism!
That said, there's also nothing wrong with expressing the likes or dislikes for his work either.

Again, in my opinion, this one looks a little shoddy. The lack of attention to detail is quite obvious.
Who knows but that tank and cover may well be failed attempts at a design theory and this low budget
project was a good way to rid the shop of some rejects.

That said, "for every butt there is a seat"! So if you dig this one so much than buy it!  ;)

Hey, I do pretty shoddy work myself.  I've been known to turn a part for a buck or two.  Why don't you guys bang on me a while?
Is it because I don't build bikes for a living?  Is it because I am unknown?  Is it because I haven't won any shows or been in any rags?  Heck, I've never even been to a Green day concert!
So come on guys, rip me a bit , will ya?
