I swapped out the handlebars on my CB500 tonight. It was a wrestling match at times but I got it done....almost.

How do I remove the left hand grip? With a blow dryer?

An old trick is to use your wifes hair spray. Lubes it up going on, dries hard enough to keep it there but you can still get it off if need be.

My method for taking off, was to poke with long, thin screwdriver, and while screwdriver was in, spray some WD40 in, and start twisting. It will be off under a minute.

Take a knife, slit the old grip sideways/longways, peel it off. Buy new grips. Get on with your life.

The WD40 trick works.  Just stick the straw under there and squirt some in.

wd 40 if not cleaned up will let your grip slip.

Off- skinny long flat screwdriver under grip, shot of AquaNet (blue can) hair spray and some twisting will get off your grip and leave it intact. If ya don't want to keep the grip, just cut it off.

On- spray inside grip with AquaNet and slide on. That sucker won't move again after about 15 miniutes, so get it straight when you put it on.

spray paint works well also to install new grips.

I used rubbing alcohol, poured it in the grip, slid it on and it evaporates.  It cleans the inside of the grip and so my grips have been sticky and stayed put ever since.

Same effect, plus extra stickiness.   I'm a big fan of Aqua-net, too.  I wonder if there's money in buying a bunch of cheap, generic hairspray and re-labeling and marketing it as grip adhesive?

A good method for removing grips that are stuck on with hairspray is using an air compressor with the ball-inflator needle.  Just slide the needle under the edge and inflate.  It pops the grip right off and will even shoot it across the garage if you're not ready to catch it.

I cut my old ones off.

I used Carb Cleaner to get them back on. You have to go fast! It'll melt the rubber ever so slightly, which helps because they don't move at all now!

For heated grips you would have to use high temp rtv. For regular the hairspray works great.

I've found Fontina works the best but swiss is a fine substitute. Do not use cheddar, Yamaha yellow does not agree with stock Honda bars
