I keep getting the feeling these bikes just didn't get a lot of love from Honda... or there just wasn't enough R&D put into the electrical portion... I ended up taking apart and cleaning my starter, cleaning the brushes and alternator rotor, replacing the spark unit and advancer...
I'll agree.
I have owned a '79cb750(DOHC) and a LOT of parts common to that bike are on our 650's as well.
The rotor has the same OD, taper, and mounting bolt.
However the CB750's rotor I had measures lower ohms than the cb650 ones I have measured.
Was going to try it as a "upgrade" to the stocker rotor. But sold it.. $$ talks...
If I remember right the windings in the housing of the cover were the same OD, length...
It would have fit into a cb650 housing, but the wiring lengths were different, sold it as well I believe.
I have a set of CDI units from one still.
Exact same part # on it as the 650's.
I think I had to remove and replace the plug end for the 750's reg/rec though. But it is the one runnin' on my '79cb650 right now.
I must have missed the ford reg/rec conversion over there, have to go look for it!
Love cheap and readily available parts!
