What does it take to put a single shock setup like that ducati on one of our sohcs? Increased spring rate obviously, but would you need to do much bracing? Looks trick.

alot of people have done a mono shock on here... run a search or start a thread about it you will get plenty of info... the best way, IMO is to replace the swingarm with one designed for the stresses of a mono shock

Why do you want to do that????

Two shocks, one on each side is balanced and distributes the force equally.
If you have one shock and it fails then what?

You want one shock so it is not like your fathers bike?
Has to have ONE shock and the exhausts sticking up the A$$ end?
No matter what it takes?

Wow, way to go lucky! I think thats the first time you replied to a post that wasnt like 8 pages back. Also

So does one shock in the middle.

When have you had a shock catastrophically fail? Come on.

hondaface75 , meet lucky

i imagine to change to a mono the easiest way is to find a swingarm that fits like a 88-89 gsxr and add the appropriate shock mounts. The swing arm is longer so your bike will turn even less like a sport bike but anything can be done and anything can be over come with enough machine work or $

Nice bike, i dont know how the rear end would be. Your esentialy putting the load of 2 shocks into one as well as increasing the the amount of force throught leverage. So the shock would have to be pretty stout.

Godfrey went with two shocks in the middle so you have the same dampening and the way the swingarm is braced i guess its close to the same leverage as stock, just in a different direction

Both nice bikes worthy of the inspiration gallery.

If you look again the 'Hill Climber' has a single shock on one SIDE. Not centraly located at all. Call me crazy, but wouldnt it be half the weight? Un sprung weight at that. Im just curious. Ive seen it on dirt trackers before, but of course they only make left hand turns. Which would be a consistant load characteristic to consider. Im sure there is some merit behind this...?

The Ninja 650R has had a single shock on the side since 2009. ;)  It's just a question of balancing the torque load on the swingarm.  As for a shock failure.  If a single goes the back end drops to the bump stop.  If one of a pair goes, so does the handling, as the swingarm isn't designed to take the lateral stress.

Strynboen I think Google has a translator for whatever you type, not just websites.  You should be able to type what you want to say in your language and it will translate to English.

And what is the deal with photobucket?  Most of the time it won't finish loading the pages or the pictures.  When I resize, 95% of the time it doesn't do it.  Save it as something else and it works.  Very aggravating.

Ok, thread jack over.
