Er, so I've just bought this old Honda 750, and er, I'm not selling it or nothing, but I wonder if anyone here knows what it's worth?

 ;D

Terry, that's a bloody nice f2. I just hope mine turns out as good looking as that.
Just a note about this thread. I agree with how you all have handled this guy. He was obviously out for a quick buck (maybe) but As someone who has joined the forum and did not know a thing about Honda 4's until I was given the f2 I am trying to restore I have found the knowledge that I have gained and the help given to be priceless. How can someone like me return that kind of help??? I'd know next to nothing about restoring this bike except what I am learning from the forum so what can I give back that you all don't already know?? Is this getting info and help for gain?? I think so as I hope to gain a fully restored f2 that works and that I can say Ï did that". It will never be sold however. Thoughts??
Cheers

Roscoe,

Here's how you are repaying the help you receive:

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?action=profile;u=7171;sa=showPosts

In other words, by being an active member and contributing to the board.  As a matter of fact, I've read some of the threads you've started or participated in (notably the "Cracks in Engine Casing" thread, and your post in the "Re: Pulling the Motor") and found the information helpful.  By posting and sharing your progress, you're contributing.

As far as "what can I give back that you all don't already know?" learning is a process that never stops.  An older or more experienced person can often learn new things from a less experienced person, due to the fact that human brains are unique and each takes a slightly different approach to problem solving.

Just mho.

Just the act of asking a question is a contribution.

If there's something you have a question about, chances are there's somebody else out there who has the same question but doesn't want to ask it.

Even better Ross, (and thanks for the compliment) it bloody goes! Woohoo! I rode it around the backyard in semi darkness last night trying to avoid sliding out on a pile of dog shiite that "Sally the wonder dog" had just deposited, and apart from a couple of minor issues, it's the best it's ever been, and, it's oiltight! Cheers, Terry.  ;D

Like I said Terry, I only hope I can do as good a job on mine as you obviously have on yours. Its going to take time though. I'm over in Oz on the 4th May but the bike wont be coming over until we have sold the house. Then its about 6-8 weeks to get from NZ the Oz. So its a long term project.

No worries Ross, it'll probably slip back further due to the "settling in" process, but don't worry about it, just do what you can when you can, and you'll be fine. Have fun! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Ha ha, very true mate, the best thing you can do for these bikes to keep them oil tight is never pull them apart in the first place, my K0 engine looks like it's never been apart, and it doesn't leak a drop! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Just thought I would mention this,

I am a member of Oldgas.com.

If this question was asked on there, regarding a pump or a sign, it would go like this;

Are you buying it?..are you selling it?.. regardless of his intentions..

More often than not a forum member gets it , if it is for sale... before it gets to ebay.. which is sorta nice..or they will get it on ebay..

I doubt that anyone from here will now get it, if he figures out that you are from here..

I fail to see the irony here.  I don't recall ever telling Indy he shouldn't have asked his question.  In fact, I was the first one to answer it.  Now just try to tell me that someone who had the same question but didn't want to ask it wouldn't benefit from Indy's asking it.

Well darn!  I guess we really lost out on that one, huh?

Trust me, if that "mechanic" actually did any of the work he claims to have done on it, I wouldn't touch that bike with a ten foot pole.

People should know what things are worth, at least for them. Generally, when somebody asks how much something is worth, is just showing ignorance on the subject, and generally you can read between the lines "this is almost worthless for me but I don't want to shoot myself on the foot and sell it cheap when somebody out there would be ready to pay a fortune". In other forums, when somebody ask for an estimate, when I reply -if I do- I give a lower estimate. He should know better and do his homework; if he fetches a good price he won't give me any comission for informing him.

As the spanish proverb says, people who ask for indications on something's value are trying to "swim and keep his clothes dry". That is, get rid of something useless for him and make a good profit with it.

Ha ha, well of course if you read my posts, I haven't "bagged out" the F2/F3, they are a really nice looking bike, and arguably the best handler and fastest CB750, (with the best brakes to boot) and their only "achilles heel" is the engine, or more specifically, the top end.

Conversely, even when new the F/F1 didn't look right, and as good a bike as it was, (I bought one new) it killed the sales of CB750's almost overnight, forcing Honda to re-introduce the "K" bikes, with the (excellent but fugly) CB750K7.

Not having pledged allegiance to Honda, I like a large variety of bikes, including Harleys. What surprised me was how many of the guys here also own Harleys, which I think is a great thing, there are way too many folk who don't like them because it's fashionable to trash Harleys, even if they don't know what they're talking about.

I will however, keep my Harley opinions to myself if necessary, to retain membership of this wonderful resource....................  ;D

Yeah, I know, but really the only difference in looks between the F/F1s and the later ones are the wheels and the engine color.  Hate to say it, but those early Comstars are not to attractive to my eye compared to conventional spoked wheels, and the black engines tend to look a bit grungy as they age.  But, different strokes for different folks.

I'm with you on the Harleys, but I don't want to tie that much money up in one bike, and cruisers ain't my style anyway.  However, if I were to indulge, I'd get a Superglide.  Pretty reasonably priced, even compared to the Japanese cruisers, and is, after all, the real thing.

Fair enough mate, as you say, it all depends on what people like. I like spoke wheels with fat alloy rims, and I like Comstars because they're stronger and you can use modern tubeless tires.

I agree with the "rather have a Harley than a Jap cruiser" sentiment too, over here at least, I look at Jap cruiser riders as wannabe Harley riders, because they're riding wannabe Harleys.

They might think their bikes are technically superior, but at the end of the day, their manufacturers are only trying to capture some "market share" back from HD.

It's a bit like luxo car manufacturers, a BMW will always be a BMW, but a Lexus is only a Toyota.................  :P

Well said. Although I'm restoring the F2 when I get to Oz I also plan on getting a new Triumph Speedmaster to cruise around on. My wife has let me  ;D because I have sold my 1972 BSA 650 Lightning, my 1980 Honda CB650 Police bike (about to be restored but didn't) and now my 1980 Honda CB750 KZ. It was too expensive to ship them over to Oz so the compromise was that I would keep the F2 and get a new cruiser so that she could come out on runs as well. We used to do it a lot a few years ago when I had a Kawasaki 1500 Vulcan. We went all over the South Island on it then our wee daughter arrive and killed any idea of the wife going out again.

Good choice Ross, I like the new "Retro" Trumpy's, a work mate had a new Bonnie before he sold it and bought a Harley Roadking, I've ridden both bikes, and it'd be hard to choose between the two, so I think I'd have to have both,!

I can't afford either at the moment, but I just received a nice chrome Amal carb for my BSA M20 engine, so I'm almost ready to fire it up, ha ha! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Good one Terry. I restored the BSA from a basket case but I got a professional to do the engine up as I didn't know how. I didn't really want to sell the old girl but didn't really have a choice and besides that the electric start on the Honda spoilt me. The BSA was very tempermental when kick starting it and I'm getting a bit old in the tooth hense the Honda and Trumpy. Shame there isn't any new BSA's though as I am a BSA man at heart. I owned a 1971 BSA 650 Thunderbolt. Bought it brand new, lost my licence on it, joined the army , sold it and kicked myself since then. Cheers, Roscoe
