Engine is back in! Yay! Thanks to CBJoe and Pat McKee.

Just let me know when the start up is planned :)  I'll bring the champagne (or grape juice) ;)

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Will do. Had to drop the alcohol a few years back due to the Parkinson's,   :(   but non-alcoholic bevs or grape juice does the trick.   :D

Pat rode his restored Triumph over for the engine install:

Oomph:

Rcvd new seat pins from Germany; hose clamps from Outlaw Racing; Top bridge spacers from Yamiya.

Now to put it all together.   ;D

Thanks. Here's Sunday at the Busted Knuckle Garage:
Bought a top bridge bolt set from Yamiya just to get the "D" spacers. The bolts, nuts and washers are all very good chrome for less than ACE hardware, incl shipping.

Mocked up the wiring, to reacquaint myself with where they all go.

Friend of the build Ed aka Phoenix came by on his owned since new Brown K1. BEst green patina I've ever seen on a brown one. For those who don't know the brown was made from a mix of red and green. The red would fade away leaving the green. Looks like it was made that way.

He had a terrible time getting his 836 kit to run right, not smoke. Lets just say there was some confusion about ring gaps. IT runs fine now!

I put a 17 tooth sprocket on, getting ready for the drags. 48 in rear. I want to mimic what the OEMs could do back then.

Oh! I see now. Photobucket has done a grab and disabled ALL the photos I have ever posted. THey will restore the links when I pay a $400 fee. From what I've been reading, this is really screwing with people. Its bad enough they hit my hobby thread, but many people use it for more pressing needs.

Even if I revolt and change services, that won't restore all the work I've already done. They claim such a move was covered in their terms of service, and probably was. But who ever reads those? Man, there's going to be some real squealing over this.

I think this might be one of the longest threads in forum's history -- at least the longest for a build thread.

We've continued at a snails pace to get Phaedrus ready for something. Shows, drags, or whatever.

We find a way to make each task into a major event. But heck, what else have I got to do?

Leaving town for biz/pleasure. Will return and put in another Sunday, then more pictures, tech talk etc. Have a good week.   :D

Nope not yet. But if I'm going to make the Dryers Show Aug 12th, I better get crankin'.

We got the CycleX pipes on, 4-2 with a slight up sweep on the reverse cone megs. A bit perplexing until the right mouth holding technique was discovered. They look nice. But the left side pair covers the sidestand in such a way that one's toe won't reach. Gotta get a tab welded on.

No centerstand stop either. All fixable.

Did you coat your bright aluminum with anything? I'm curious.
Since I live on Maui I'm struggling with what to do with mine to slow down corrosion once it's back on the road.
Thank you

No, what you're seeing now is a recent repolish on a large wheel, after about 3 years from initial polish. I don't ride anymore so its been mostly sitting in the shop, which gets very humid sometimes, water actually condenses on to the finish and leaves spots if not wiped off quickly, and a few trips to shows and races on an uncovered trailer.

The topic has been covered here a few times. One could spray a clear coat of lacquer from a spray can. I don't really know of anyone who has done this, and most comments are that the clear coat just becomes another maintenance item. Possibly more hassle than just repolishing it. I think some good auto finish wax would give some protection.

We use a local product known as Steel Plate to try and prolong the shine, without layering on another coat that will sooner or later have to be removed.

Your best bet will probably be to keep it clean, and hand polish every few weeks with your favorite product.

I've had good results with White Diamond Polish and Sealer, but regular maintenance is the way to go if you'd like to retain the "just polished" shine.

We've been continuing to tinker. The old gold anodized grips didn't hold up well. The color faded with only a minimum of exposure. What do you want for 87 cents? I've got a box of Oury's left over from a previous life. 1 pair of purple ones, I'll try them.

Guard dog:

After an initial struggle, we got the new pipes on. After learning the tricks, they are easier than the old Marshall. They look cleaner as well. I've got an appt to go to Saldana's Racing Products on Tuesday to have some muffler hangers and stand stops made.

looking forward to hearing them. They should be much more aggressive than the Marshalls.

A shot of the grips and pipes:

I'll get a closeup of the header clamps next time I'm in the shop. They are nicely done, simple and clean, by Ken at CycleX.

Looks great Ron, I love those Oury grips, Oury's are my favourites too, I just bought 3 sets from an Ebay seller in the US for 11 bucks per set, so a nice price for a nice grip, and they're made in the USA still too.

I've missed a lot of your thread, last time I looked you had a different set of pipes on it, what was wrong with them? Or did you just feel like a change? Sorry to read about your Parkinson's, I hope it's not messing with you too much. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"
