seaweb, i love your bike, man that looks awesome!! I really want to know how to polish up the engine like you did, thats one of the last things i gotta do (well cept paint it) I have a 6" ryobi buffer, where do i start? What products do i use? Any help man, yours looks fabulous.

I'm sure others have their thoughts on this, "and will probably let us know". Here is how I did it. All my parts were very pitted, water had obviously got under the factory clear coat.

* Started with wet sanding a small piece "I was a bit scared". with 400 grit wet sand paper.
* Sanded again with 600
* Sanded again with 800
* Then hand polished with "Mothers Polish"
* I then went to mechanic friends place and used his buffer and his polish sticks. He had a couple of different ones, but settled on one that did not take off to much more.
* Wiped it off and Wala!

Right on. I am big on wetsanding since i do alot of poly finishes. That sounds simple enough, i got all those grades in my garage. I got the buffer, but dont really see how that would work on an engine. Ill try it anyways. Did the buffer really make that big of a difference after you hand polished?

I Polished the Valve cover, starter cover, clutch covers, etc.

Engine was sanded with different things, sand paper, tooth brushes, wire brushes, anything I could get in between fins........

Buffer made every thing POP! It didn't look very good until I got to that final stage.

not to intrude on this beautiful bike thread but, bigger pictures? come on now. some of you are posting pics that are over 500kb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... if you'll look at some of my pics they are down to below 20kb and still have amazing clarity... get photoshop all of you!!! ... only then, post bigger pictures.

nice job with the polish. I have tried doing the same as you, but never came outthe same. Guess I'll haveto try again with the 600 & 800 grit sandpaper this winter.

Could you have accived the same with sandblasting using walnuts? That 's what a local kid says, but he always is too busy (yeah right) to work on my bikes.
