jreich, you indicate this as an alternative M/C  http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FRONT-BRAKE-MASTER-CYLINDER-CB400-CB450-CB550-NIGHTHAWK_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35592QQihZ001QQitemZ110227940930QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

have you used one, any photos? My M/C is to rough to use on my present build and I am looking for an alternative for my dual system.
$49.00 seems fine if it will work well.

  • So, what do ya wanna talk about today?
I wouldn't Derek, the piston is only 14mm, (same size as the OEM CB750 MC, so not good enough for twin discs) look for one with a 17mm or larger piston. A CB750F2/F3 MC is a good choice, and won't look out of place on your bike.

If you don't care about keeping the "classic" look though, go for a late model GSXR1000 MC, I tried one on my K1 with twin discs and braided lines, and damn near did a "stoppie" first time out! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

I have searched for this answer without success. The question I have is, will a CB750 caliper fit on a 74 CB550 with the CB550 wheel and rotor? If not, what must be changed/modified to make it work?

Also, will a 1983 CB550 caliper (2 piston caliper) fit onto a 1974 CB500?

Last, this forum is great! I recently purchased a CB550 to restore and create a cafe racer. I will post a link to the blog (it will be up tonight) of the build.

Thanks,
Matt

The short answer is a qualified yes. I say qualified because only some 750 front calipers will work. The proper ones have the "T" shaped bracket that holds the caliper to the forks. This rules out some early 750s. I don't know the exact model/time cut-off but I know it's on the forum. Search a little harder and you will find it because I've seen it recently. A further qualification would stipulate you use the 750 rotor with the 750 caliper. But, as I said, if you match up the right models, then yes, it's a bolt-on swap.
