I'm sold! The gas station where I fill the CB had a LPG tank the last time I checked.

I'm told LPG is a byproduct of pumping  crude from the ground. Do I have that right?

BTW: Screw China! They nearly killed my cat with that tainted food they sold us about a year ago.

Yep, the big flares you see burning out of the top of the towers on oil rigs are LPG fueled, a lot of oil companies didnt see any value in it until lately

Huh, can LPG be pumped without retrieving the oil?

I would guess it could.

Sure can, usually it comes out of the ground under pressure. It is a very clean fuel, i think most Taxi's in Aus use it.

I`m no geophysicist (or whatever they are called) but as its all under pressure and the LPG is a gas and would i assume sit on top of the oil i dont see why not

Plenty of private vehicles are dual fuel with a lesser number dedicated LPG vehicles, most taxis are dedicated LPG here in adelaide, i know some of the taxi depots have their own LPG tanks for them to fill from

Yep, definitely sits on top. Costs, last time i heard, about 6 cents a liter to get it to the service station and we have truckloads of the stuff, but it gets heavily taxed.
No one is really trying to clean up anything environmentally, its all about fukcing money.... ???

Too bloody right, the companies are making a fortune raising the price with every raise in the price of oil, dont know why we produce 20 or 30 times what australia uses every year and more

I use to read about guys with hot rods (think '32 Deuce Coupe) and still others with drag cars running on LPG using 'carburetors' from fork lifts or something. This was in the eighties and the first I had heard of it.

The last street racer project of mine, 1970 Duster, 'glass nose, narrowed Dana, 440, I thought for a while of running alcohol after I discovered Holley at the time made carbs to use it and that engines run cooler and cleaner inside and out. Glad I didn't... not a lot of alcohol stations around. ;D

There's another excise rise this year, somewhere around 9-10%, this has been factored in for quite a while now.....blame Howard.... ::)

A mob over here called "gas research" make single and twin injected throttle body high performance systems and they are awesome, regularly out performing similar spec petrol cars.

A lot of the early systems were a "fogger" type, usually a ring that sat around the top of the carb, this way you could run either fuel but with a loss of power and efficiency in both modes as the tuning is different for both fuels.
You need to do a little to an engine when running LPG alone as it has none of the upper cylinder lubricant, although this isnt as much of a problem with newer engines (I`m an old car guy not a new car fan).

OOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh yeah, theres a lot he is responsible for, and nothing deserving of a bloody medal from the american president. A length of rope and a couple of litres of diesel from the aussie public more like it

Er, well, I actually voted for Howard, the previous Labour government under Hawke/Keating were crap, but I've gotta say that Big Kev is doing a pretty good job, and for that idiot Abbott to say that Howard's "I'm GW's only mate" medal was as important as young Mark Donaldson's VC, well, I almost flew to Canberra to punch that mouthy little prick out.

Having said that, I'm bumfcuked at the Australia Day awards, talk about cronyism! Mick Dodson gets "Australian of the Year" for complaining about white Australians, and Fat Guts Beazley gets Companion of the order of Australia? For what? Losing more elections than any other opposition leader? What a fcuking joke! Based on that, Richmond is gonna win the AFL Grand Final! I still remember when he was defence minister, he was so fcuking fat, he got stuck in the hatch of a Leopard Tank and nearly suffocated the crew!

Now, back to cars for a mo, yeah, I know that dedicated gas cars should be more powerful than their petrol powered counterparts, but (at Ford, at least) they're not. We've gotta be careful with the (often misunderstood) Octane vs efficiency argument, for instance, E10 is a couple of points higher octane than regular unleaded, but far less efficient, and does not return anywhere near the fuel economy of normal fuel.

My 1998 EL Falcon (petrol) with 200,000 klicks on the engine will crap all over my 2008 BF ute on dedicated gas, and of course, return much better fuel economy. I was with Patrick right up to when he bagged out Hydrogen fuel cell cars, hell, I reckon it's a wonderful idea, and BMW will sell you a Hydrogen powered 7 series that works very well indeed, if you can find a pump to refuel it...........  ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

Never had a lot to do with the cars apart from what i`ve heard and the wifes VL, cheap to run but as gutless as a politician faced with facts. Always put it down to bad tuning and the age of the vehicle

Yes i agree, gas is less economical producing the same amount of power but it is definitely better for the environment.

That's really the problem with all the new automotive technologies, Terry. No infrastructure. They actually did install some LPG refueling stations around Texas back in the 90s and I drove an LPG powered car while working for the state of Texas for several years. Unfortunately you about the only long distance trips you could take on LPG were from LPG station to LPG station. All the state vehicles were dual fuel, with gas.

I remember when they rolled out the idea of hydrogen fuel cells back then, as well. There wasn't supposed to be a need for refueling stations. You would fill your tank with water and they water would be reacted down into hydrogen and oxygen by electricity. The oxygen would be released and the hydrogen would be captured and burned as fuel. When the hydrogen was burned it would combine with oxygen and the only emissions would be water vapor.

Great idea. Wish they could make it work.
