helmet photos. what are you wearing? safety or sexy?
« on: January 25, 2009, 06:23:30 PM »
What are you wearing this season? Is it safe or is it just sexy?
What is it all about for you?
Post personal photos.

Personally I like my sexy vintage Buco Traveler which I am having painted at the moment.
Been  thinking about my older brother who was paralyzed from the neck down at age
16 back in the mid 80's on my uncle's 1100 Honda Magna. The helmet saved his life.
But the helmet he was wearing was nothing compared to today's standards.

i am glad that someone started a thread like this. i haven't bought helmet yet, and with the bike in pieces, it hasn't mattered. i have been having this debate. sexy for me would be an AFX 42a with a red "M" on the front to look like Speed Racers.

the practical side of me says, "you are a newer rider. you need to be more concerned with safety and self preservation." so i have more or less decided on a full face first. i am looking at the Icon "Air frame" the Shoei RF-1000 and there was a KBC VR2R. i have not yet been able to try on all three in the proper size to compare, but i like the features on paper and have heard and read great things about each. i know it will come down to fit and comfort, though i don't think i would be disappointed with either of the three. i am interested in any opinions or experience. then when i have a little extra cash, experience, and confidence i'll go for the Speed Racer helmet for to and from work, around town and what not.
The more adults I meet, the more I want to help kids.

i used to be drunk and dirty,
now i am clean and sober.

Mach 5- I started this post because I need to get myself motivated to get myself a more practical and safe helmet for to and from work. I have a 50 mile round trip to and from work. I think I am going to save the vintage Buco for short rides.
If you have any highway or a long trip to work it might be better for your safe side to win on this one, especially if it is in the dark morning hours.

spikeybike- i have a friend who rides a '75 cb550 that looks like it has been through the fires of Hell and back- he has the same AF. I like the way that color looks in the sun. I think that Arthur Fulmer has the best fit or the coolest fit of any vintage open face helmet.

I rock a very non-vintage Icon helmet.  I have a large and odd shaped noggin so many helmets don't feel great on.  I'm more practial than fashionista by nature so I really like the venting features in this helmet.  It doesn't fog up on me much. I wear sunglasses with the visor up unless I'm on the highway.

My head feels very protected, and as comfortable as possible in a full face helmet.  Yes it clashes with the vintage look of my K6 but I don't care : )

Glad you asked:
Safe AND Sexy.

Finally, after 3 tries, I got a good quality helmet that filts. A typical helmet rattles around my ears, yet rubs my forehead raw.
This fits nice and snug all the way around my egg shaped noggin.

Grabbed it on ebay NWT for less than half retail:

Arai Profile in gloss black
78 CB750 Four "The Little Beast"
95 Triumph 900 T-Bird "Ginger"
84 1200 Goldwing Aspencade "Brown Sugar"

R550, that's a cool helmet.  How much did that run you?

And I agree, the only "S" logo I want is a big red one on my chest... and Maybe a smaller red one on my left butt cheek...

Rach~
But I need Tacos!  I need them or I will explode!

I don't remember exactly.  BUT, I do remember specifically that this higher end Scorpion was around the same price as a low end Shoei.

I guess the few hits up there were for me but will post my helmet anyway (Shoei RF-900).  Shield is dark black and has a headset and mic in it.

Rockin the HJC FS-10. Bought it last season but im going to have to look into getting vinyl graphics applied to it since there is some damage to the out finish thanks to an idiot that was riding with my crew and rode into gravel on purpose spraying a bunch of us with it in the process...The built in sunglasses are kinda handy kinda like a fighter pilots helmet in the way that they have a slide in the center to lower them.

+1    I just got one of those too last season.  Took some getting used to being so snug around the cheek area (maybe my face is getting too fat?)
