I look pretty weak...  Blue jeans, boots, long sleeved shirt (normally with my Pittsburgh Penguins jersey on top), full face cheap Walmart helmet and gloves.  Oh yeah, and a crooked smile...

If you were going for the crotch rocket rider look, you'd be wearing the $1,000 Arai helmet with graphics, Corona tank top, shorts and flip-flops.  ::)

Full face helmet, heavy leather jacket, armoured gauntlet gloves and rain pants.  Hopefully my winter top-end rebuild will fix the oil pissing out of the head gasket and I can try some other kinda pants! :D

Personally, I look at those Crotch Rots and my back starts to throb!  And those egg shell beanie helmets look to me like they are missing their propeller.  I prefer to protect the WHOLE head, not just the bald spot.

Dress for the slide, not for the ride!

My gear is probably not ideal, I wear a fulmer half helmet, heavy denim jeans, either my magnum leather boots or my docs, and normally I wear a heavy leather welding jacket( a tilman onyx)
1980 cb650c first bike i owned now the wife's ride.           1982 xv920j virago, bike i learned to ride on rescued it from a 13 year coma (sitting in the shed) now she runs beautifully and rides like a dream.

After many years of being without a permanent ride I had to replace all my old gear, which wasn't a bad thing as the helmet was well past its' safety life and I had put on a wee smidgen of weight since my youth. ;)
To match the bike (see avatar) I bought a black armoured jacket with reflective edgings, pants to match, armoured gloves (gauntlet style cos I hate the cold going up my arms) and a white FFM K3 helmet which has the flip up visor like our traffic cops wear.
Just received my armoured black boots so the whole look is a match for the bike.
Final touch (and one I totally agree with) is a reflective safety vest which I have permanently attached to my armoured jacket.
If the bike don't scare the hoons, the rider will. ;D
Oh yeah and because our sun is a killer and my eyes are very sensitive, decent Polaroid sunglasses.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

In a catalog a while back (I think it was Cheaper Than Dirt or one of those sort) they were selling surplus California Highway Patrol gold tinted helmets- Yep, just like the cops on CHiPs wore...

What?!  No dystopian mutant killer bikers a la Wez in The Road Warrior???

Schott Leather Jacket for that vintage look; jeans; black leather work boots, Alpinestars gloves with reinforced knuckles, Davida Classic Jet DOT-approved helmet (w/3 stripes), Halcyon googles.  For longer rides on the freeway, I have a full-face Scorpion helmet, and for hot weather I have a Vanson perforated leather jacket.

Full face helmet.
JoeRocket textile/padded jacket.
JoeRocket leather gloves.
Jeans.
Steel toe leather work boots.

Sometimes in the Summer it dropped down to shorts, t-shirt, and sneaks, with everything else unchanged. Probably not the smartest but I have a short commute and it worked out fine.

I thought this fit into this thread quite well...

I myself usually ride in full face, bandana, leather jacket, jeans, gloves, and under-armor leggings if it's cold.

A buddy of mine went down last year and will wear full leathers no matter what. It was 100 degrees out side and he was rocking a full pants/jacket set up.

I realize that if I go down at more then 30 mph the only thing that will matter is my jacket and helmet. I have rode BMX for 12 years and know how to crash. I know that sounds funny but, I have crashed in many of ridiculous ways, and for the most part get away with minor stuff. That however is without a 400 lbs. motorcycle chasing you and cars. I however completely realize that if I go down I will be ripped to shreds. I hope everyone else realizes that, next time they leave the house in shorts.

Also please wear long socks, when riding. Not for protection but you look retarded, with the gap between your shoes, and your pants while riding.

Full face helmet, leather gauntlet gloves, leather jacket (unless it's really hot then mesh), lether/textile/mesh pants, Alpinestar boots.

I like my skin and extremities much more than I care about how others perceive me.

I may be getting an Aerostitch or similar here soon for commuting duties.

Vintage horsehide leather cafe jacket or WWII British RAF sheepskin when really cold, open face helmet, Halycon goggles. Levi's or Cahartt denim and Redwing motorcycle boots. Ear plugs on longer rides. I always wear long pants and ride in boots, even when I lived hot and humid southeast Texas.

What up! I am retro, as much as I can anyhoo. Safety is always first priority, then be a character because like jmil20 said it could be your last, I will most likely get a full face helmet this year for the highway rides.

Flipflops, shorts and a tanktop.

Actually, black leather boots, black leather jacket, blue jeans, sometimes a full face, sometimes a half shell with goggles.

It's a misconception that jeans provide a lot of protection in the event of an accident. It actually takes very little for jeans to wear through. This is some other dude on another forum's jeans after he fell off his bike.

That said, I'm guilty of sometimes not wearing my riding pants on short rides.

I'm looking for a retro-cool CE jacket in leather, something warmer than my current, semi-retro styled Joe Rocket textile/mesh.

Full face helmet, deerskin gloves, Milwaukee boots, chaps.

What do you guys recommend for us tall guys - I'm 6'5" with a 33" waist, I believe "lanky" wouldn't be entirely inappropriate. Jackets don't typically fit me well, especially with my arms outstretched. I'd have to go with an XL for the length, but then there'd be enough room inside to fit two of me.

I've seen a couple brands that have specific "tall" sizes. What should I look at in the realm of "inexpensive without sacrificing quality"?

6'3" here, 34 waist. I picked up a Z1R leather recently off of ebay but I went through a lot of rigamarole getting the seller to measure from the pits and collar and so forth beforehand. That's one (pretty frustrating) way although I'm really happy with the purchase.

The other is go try them on. No real way around that  ::) If you've got a ton of cash you can have one custom made by Fox Creek or Vanson et al.

Previous to this jacket I had (have) a Joe Rocket textile. They make good stuff and it fits right. Just wish they'd lose the spaceman spiff aesthetic. Fieldsheer makes a really nice low key textile jacket that might be worth giving a go.
