well, I cant stop the cheesburgers, so its gonna have to be the center stand that goes.

Thats a good idea, I am going to weigh and record everything I remove....100lbs is a GREAT target to reach.

p.s. sandblasting takes time and patience.....but is turning out very well.  Right now I am working on the top of the triple, and next I may go ahead and tackle wheels.

Where are you guys getting your new spoke kits, and what are they costing?  is there a special part number?

I also really need to know what other carb rebuild kits will fit these carbs....

  • im a bit off the charts. sorry.
hahaha. i too cant stop the cheeseburgers!
keep in mind;  i only reached the 100lb target cuz my bike had a big seat, sissy bar, and luggage rack. big stock pipes too. if your bike was 100% stock 75 lbs would be great.  gotta get these fat girls skinny!!!
sandblasting is awesome.  just be careful. it can trash rubber and plastic in a second. i used chemical paint stripper for painted parts, and a wire brush on a drill. then sandpaper for rusted parts.
...then again i didnt have a sandblaster.    lucky f#}%@r!

  • Bought her new 4/75
Bought my stock spokes (and wheels) from ServiceHonda.com. 40 for each wheel. $2.55 each. There are cheaper alternatives out there. Had I not wanted a correct restore I would have gotten stainless from Buchanans. I think there is a guy from Thailand selling kits for about 1/3 the price on EBay.

Great homemade sandblaster.  I never would have thought of using knee-holed jeans that way.  Really cool idea.

No go on the rear. Thats for a drum brake rear. Remember you have a disc.

Yeah...I like that idea.  Send me the tank and I will show you how to make one!  ;D

I was searching for the build threads where guys have done this but couldn't find them.  There are several so if anyone else remembers who please post the link.

Basically you decide how long you want your seat cowl to be and cut the rear of the tank off to match.  You can either modify your stock seat pan and weld the tank section to it or you can make a new seat pan.  I like this idea because then you have a seat cowl that matches the same lines as your tank.

The rear cowl on this CX 500 is made from a cb360T tank.

Hope this helps.

How about this one from a CB350 twin tank:

I posted a build thread last year:

well, so I am still waiting on the carb rebuild kits.  I am not sure what all is going to come with it...orderd from partsnmore

so a buddy of mine traded me a tank off of a 80-81 cb650.  its in perfect condition and came off of a perfect running bike, so I would love to make it my tank...it looked silly on the cb650 because the frame went up at an angle towards the handlebars.  but when you lay it on a cb750f with a flat frame...looks cool, like a hornet.  I am thinkin i can make a seat n tail out of my rusty tank, and use this other free tank...

oh, and here are some pics of my parts after they have been sandblasted and primed  (self etching primer - rattlecan)

so for any of you wondering what the carb rebuild kit from partsnmore.com comes with....here it is

seems to be a brand called keyster       hope this helps someone.

so exactly how clean do these carbs need to be.  i did the simple green, wiped them down, didnt think that was quite good enough, and even bought some "gunk" carb cleaner and soaked them...

good enough?  how clean is clean...

dieselndixie

  • Guest
so I got 2 of the carbs rebuilt....not tuned, but rebuilt.

I have a question.  I decided to cut the "top" portion of my gas tank off, leaving the bottom pan of the tank alone so that I can seperate the tank into 2 halfs and clean the inside, as well as repair/ patch all the areas that are rusted out.

I want to use the stock tank, and make a tail section out of the tank my buddy donated. (81 cb650)

question is this....I have cut around the edges, but the little fuel vent piece seems to be holding the top of the tank to the bottom.  I cant figure out how to seperate the two pieces of the tank.....am I making any sense?

oh, and tell me what full engine gasket set to order....please ???
