He must have deleted his account.  I tried to PM him from a reply to one of my posts and it couldn't find his username.

That's strange...and sucks big time!! UL always had good posts and was a good Canadian boy (to quote Don Cherry!). I think it was those reprobates over on the SBPT that drove him to it!!  ;)

Let's hope it is temporary...

I don't understand why some people, especially long-time members, feel the need to delete their accounts when they're not planning on being around much.

UL never seemed like the impulsive type, so I'm sure he put some thought into it before he did it, though.  He'll be missed, but the whole account deleting thing seems strange.

I doubt he's reading this thread, so I'll save the sentimental farewell for the internal monologue.

The long reply that I typed before finding that it wouldn't go, I tried to post it to myself so that I could print it off later.
I started to type my name in place of Daves but the computer kept putting my sons user name in (SamCr750son).
I sent it to him and I have a copy in my out box that I can print off in the morning when the printer comes back on line.
I have Daves address so I'll post it to him.
I'll miss Dave a lot. :(

I'll have to say that I'M going to miss Dave very much myself! :( Dave is quite a unique person, in my opinion. I wish there was something that I could say that would change his mind, but I doubt that I would have any effect, if Sam couldn't. :( Sure hate to see all these folks leaving us. Sure hope he (or anyone else doesn't send ME an email because my email is all screwed up and only thing I can get to is PM's on the forums. Gonna Miss Dave!

I'm with Gordy, just because you sell your bike (even if you buy another brand) you don't need to delete your account, it's like slamming the door on part of your history. Was he miffed about something? (Apart from being Canadian............. ;D) Oh well, they come and they go, so he might come back one day.............  :-\
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Me too. I was unaware that this would happen when someone deletes their account.

 Matt.

While we're remembering Dave, here's a link to a tour report he gave us last year. Some great pics of his trip from out west to Ontario.

Well the account deletion thing, I get it. After a short time here, I noticed some people seem to have no restraint on insulting others and they seem to be allowed to get away with it. That said, I don't remember seeing anything like being done to Dave. I do not go to the spbt and I don't check every single thread so I could be wrong.
It just seems that some people show a distinct lack of respect for others and they act like it is their right.
Now not saying I am perfect on this but if I do it to someone, I man up and take responsibility for it. most here do except for a select few. I will not name names or anything as I don't want to "rock the boat baby!"

We can all hope that Dave kicks himself in the butt and comes back though! ;D

Vinman stop being such an eliteist!

Hah. Joking...  :D

Any way, here are my thoughts, for what it's worth.

Some of the more seasoned riders here seem not to care too much for the generation that is stepping up to carry the torch. I think there is a lot of people who are forgetting their own younger years, maybe they were not as loose as we are, but for their time and place I think they were. There is a ton of frustration floating around the world already, add to that a sour economy and god only knows what kind of personal problems at home and what you have at that point is a volatile combination. I am not saying this does or does not pertain to UL, I shared a few good humored pokes back and forth with him. Seemed okay to me. Basically it comes down to a lack of communication. If you don't agree with or like someone that is perfectly fine, but if you are going to have a conversation, have it. Don't put your two cents in and shut down and ignore everything the other person is saying, in my book that is pretty immature. This is my theory on why some of the seasoned members are leaving, they are not interested in "hanging out" with a bunch of "kids".

At any rate, take care UL.

I was only kidding about the SBPT! ;) besides I have seen UL post in there too!

Having said that though, I think you are atleast partly correct caave. There is a definite shift in the type of people on the board as of late. I am not saying it is better or worse just different. I guess I fall somewhere in between based on my age and personal style. I am not as young and hip as some of you guys....even if I am only 34 I am an old 34 in that I have 2 kids 2 mortgages etc etc.

Up until fairly recently these old Hondas were frowned upon by the younger crowd but now that vintage is cool so are these bikes. The younger crowd who has always strived to be different (whether it is musically, style, tattos) have gotten into these bikes as another form of self expression. There is definitely a difference in the generations. One of the differences is how we interact whether it is in person or on the net. This can rub some people the wrong way.

Again, I am not saying this has anything to do with Dave's departure!

I will say though that this website has ballooned over the last couple of years. From an interest in the hobby standpoint that is a very good thing! (although it is driving parts prices up!). From strictly an interaction perspective the site has lost some of it's family feel. I think that for some guys without this kind of connection to eachother they feel that if they don't still have a bike as a connection and they don't have the family connection there is less of a desire to stick around...

I'm here to get nothing more than the thoughts and opinions of a bunch of people I do not know who share the same love of a bike that predates me and yet makes me feel like a kid.

I think caave might have it. The attitude I notice is generally with older member but not the real old ones. Seems most prevalent in the 50s crowd but once over that, they seem to mellow out. Now I certainly am NOT saying it is all the 50s crown, far from it. just a couple of them. But this is all just speculation.

Hah, some of you younger farts are way tamer than we were "back in the day"  ;) You just don't know and we can't tell. Parents don't do that! It's just when we had our children that we get reigned in.  ;D Now it's your turn. Paybacks perhaps.

We all get set in our ways. Some of us have just been through more phases than others but we all need to think before saying which some do better than others. Respect other's opinions and if you don't, then ignore them or keep your thoughts to yourself. I was told many years ago, and it still applies to some extent, that I have no tact. I speak my peace but not anywhere nearly as much as I used to. I do my best to not step on anyones toes. If I get pissed, I'll try to get over it or just ignore it. If I think I know more than you do then I'll keep it to myself. If I think you are wrong I probably won't say so unless it jacks someone up, then I'll just post my ideas. I won't get caught up in a pissing contest. I think I've outgrown those. If I get pissed enough I'll just disappear but leave my rantings to haunt you.

With that in mind it's too bad UL has departed. Good guy. Hope he looks in as a guest.

Dennis

Dennis, you are only as old as you feel brother.

I grew up poor so everything I've ever had has been used outdated vintage. I got this bike because I found it on craigslist super cheap and I wanted a project at the same time. Little did I know how much character this bike has.

I really think 99.9% of the problems that have been popping up comes from a lack of communication and understanding. The majority of us are not professional writers, so if I were to call Havoc Turbo a slack jawed yokel, well there is no voice, pitch, tone or anything to that statement, completely open to interpritation. This is where the whole "thin skinned" bull crap pisses me off. If you insult some one, and it's a joke, you really should make it known as a joke. I have been in and out of a lot of these threads and there are certain members that become the butt of a lot of jokes, even if it is all in good fun that effects people. Not to call you out Fuzz, but I know I pick on you a lot for being a hairy violent beast, even though I always try to use  ;D ;D these things to make it known it's completely a joke, I am sure enough of it would pester anyone.

If you want to argue with me about this, feel free to send me a pm and I will berate you and add smileys after everything and see how thick your skin is. Point is, we're all human beings. It's easy to point your finger and tell some one to toughen up, but can you yourself do it?
