I got a nasty letter from the City Building Inspector today. I will post a copy of it when I can. Here is the text from my response to the city building inspector

I have reviewed your letter and found it to be little more than anti-motorcycle orientated. You state in your letter that motorcycle repair or storage is not allowed as a use in your residential zone. Taking your statement fully verbatim, I request that the City of Reedsburg to go about having ALL “stored” motorcycles in garages, yards, and temporary structures in the City of Reedsburg removed from any residential zoned premises. I can tell you that there am many as I have seen them.

Furthermore you have made clear that repair of a vehicle is not allowed in a residential zone so I will take the time to contact the Reedsburg Police Department and you every time I see someone working on their vehicle (including jumping of a vehicle in the cold which is still working on it as it is an attempt to repair a deficiency on their car, truck, SUV, or whatever) within these areas and expect action from the Reedsburg Police Department and or you in this matter to make it stop. It will give you both chances for a little public relations.

We were contacted by the Reedsburg Police Department a week ago as asked to begin removing motorcycles from our property. We have as a matter of fact removed several motorcycles. Naturally the complainers (City Employees Included) have failed to take any type of head count in the matter. As of November 26 we had removed 9 motorcycles from the property and cut up several others. Less than 1 week from my contact from the Reedsburg Police Department, who assured me that I would be given a reasonable time frame to remove them, you send me a harassing letter. So much for taking a break to enjoy Thanksgiving with my family.

In your letter you also state “debris”. I would expect that ALL properties in the City of Reedsburg will debris free. When they are not I will take the time for a courtesy call to you and expect action from you in this matter. As a matter of fact I contacted you for 8 months about our neighbor’s tacky fence and ramshackle building and you failed to ever respond or contact me. With this past response history I trust I will get the same response from you again.

I can tell you just as sure as I can park a licensed car or gas hogging SUV in my drive, the licensed motorcycles will stay in my driveway. Any removal of them will be treated as theft as many of them exceed the value of many cars of similar years. Any damages to these vehicles from attempting to remove them will be billed to the City of Reedsburg without exception. This could be interesting as a single broken mirror can cost in excess of $100 to replace. With that said, all partial bikes will be removed from the driveway and my side yard. I was in that process before all of the harassment from both you and Reedsburg Police Department.

This is disturbing coming from our local government. These are very much attitudes from Germany where no one may work on any vehicle in the drive or garage. I see you have taken the time to carbon copy to everyone but the city attorney, which you should have consulted before hastily writing your letter, so I have taken the time to send a copy of your letter to them as well a copy of this letter to all of your recipients included.

Welcome to Facist Ruled Reedsburg

Thomas Neubauer

By the way the debris was a plastic gardening wheel barrow that my wife left upside down so it would not fill with junk and a few rear grab bars?

I could not get a good scan that was reasonable size and still readable. So totally complete and unabridged here is the body of his text

It sucks,
but the squeaky wheel gets the grease and you have been tagged.

Once you are a target of attention, it takes years for them to go away.
Off topic..........My wife had a hissy fit on our kid at the mall one day and within 24hrs we had the Ministry of children at the door.
It took almost two &^$((&^%$^(*(&*^%^ years to convince them we don't "usually" beat our children and finally  got rid of them!
The Govt....not the children...we still beat them ::)

The trick as I have found is not to show up on their radar. Moved to a small offshore Island....don't beat your children in public any more and keep the mess in the yard to a minimum.

Good luck.

P.S. Pacify them...it truly is the only way to make them go away. Old saying have real reasons behind them.
The old saying “you can’t fight city hall” came from somewhere

Tommorow makes the last day on the letter. We will see just how it goes. I have but 4 bikes in the drive right now, and some small stuff - like two gas tanks (now buried under 10 inches of snow) and a 4 into 1 750 header. I have plans to use the winch so I do not have to push in the snow two bikes into the garage. So that will leave the trusty K5 and the super sport cafe out in the cold for about one week. Let's see how they respond. Last time I moved 15 bikes and they (the cops) had the nerve to say I did not move anything.

I told her that I had moved 15 bikes out of here and now accused by her of not moving anything, then issue the damn ticket and move on as I will see her in court. I told her she better have pictures of what it was like before I moved the bikes because I do. And I swear to God I will kick thier ass in court if they give me any #$%*e.

Funny part is that on all of the big snows thus far I have been running the old snowblower (with new motor) from a previous score, and clearing all of the driveways within view. This was done only to shove the pointy stick in deep. Fact is that there were no nieghbors that called. Just the city ass holes. The snow blower was one of those "If you want the bike then you have to take the blower too" scores  ;D

I always step in and help my neighbors. I am not perfect, but if you lived across the street you could be pretty sure that I would plow out your drive and clear your sidewalk with the blower before you got home from work. You would be sure that you could grab a beer after work before having to dig with that damn shovel. I do the same with my riding lawnmower when I see someone is away or is getting behind. Plus if you were from this forum I would possibly have the parts you are looking for.

Just trying to be a decent neighbor, not perfect because I am an A-hole to live by sometimes (loud bikes of visitors and my own loud occasional exhaust). But I try to make it all liveable for everyone around me.

Always beat your children within the confines of a closet.  ;D Just kidding.

Sounds like sound advice to me. I always arm the child with the same weapon. Keeps it sporting. It was my own fault I did not see the thumb to the eye coming. Ouch!

Went to court today and pled not guilty. Plus I went around and took pictures of all the junk piles in town I know they are not addressing. My place almost looks sharp enough to sell. Only one bike in the drive and ZERO parts.
