Thanks Larry, I hope yours was as fun as my weekend was. I laid out all of the K0 restoration parts as they go on the bike to determine what's missing. I need sidecover emblems and tank decals, Mesh for the louvers is here somewhere, I'll post a pic as soon as my computer co-operates.

I was rotating parts for the K2 and wanted to put the newest gaiters on the K0, I noticed the fork tubes weren't so great so I stole the new ones bought  for the K2 drag bike and tried the swap. Apparently I'd never done fork seals on the 70 K0, and so begins the tale of woe.
I learned the early 750's have 450 fork lowers. Maybe the tubes too. The fork seals for my K2 forks didn't fit at all, they are 2mm oversize OD for the early forks, the snap ring which snapped in two is also a silly mm smaller than standard. 37 compared to the newer one's 38 mm.
Someone has generic 37mm snap rings on ebay for $5 each compared to $14 for Honda parts. Grainger and fastenall have them cheap, if I didn't have to buy a bag full. All ballz has the smaller fork seals since they also fit a 450. 35x46x11 for the K0 and 35X48X11 for K1 and up.

Two sets of tank decals are on the way, one K0 and one K2. I may get creative and swap them, I think the k2 stripe with black gold and pearl white would look #$%*in on Candy Blue Green.

One of the parts bikes I drug home today has a sandcast engine in it, 1002695. I rubbed my eyes and looked again. It was still there.  I didn't expect to be pleased with this collection of junk but I've already assembled a nice K4 out of the parts and found this gem. It appears to have the late head on it though. I do have a 104xxxx diecast motor stuck hard but I haven't taken it apart yet.

Another one seemed to have a blank number pad but after a little spit bath I could see it was stamped.

I'm thinking of buying a sheet metal engine stand and building it as art until I find a frame or a home for it.

Great Score...............Sorry I missed you at Davenport............I was there for most of Friday while travelling home from Bonneville............Had a nice talk with David Silver.  I bought a few CL77 parts. I have a few K0 parts (domestic rhino-horn triple/front wheel/one fork-leg - chromed/and some brake parts) but no bike. I also have a very rough set of no-number pipes and two rough sets of HM300 pipes but only one pipe is presentable 'as-is'......and a dented double-cut front fender. I have to move my stash so the price could be right ;)

I took a 750 to Super Chevy at cordova, this guy had my phone number and was sitting on it undecided. Then his wife said he is moving to somewhere warm and he was forced to call me. I just thought he had a few parts, I get there and it's 6 bikes. The price was good and he's a decent guy, loves his cb750's. I think he's checking me out before asking me to build him one, unfortunately it's the one he was hit by a drunk driver on and it's bent severely.

My brother sold me 2, the FnK and a K2 and I found a k1 on a Facebook link to a Craigslist ad. There was money left in the racing account from selling 4 bikes earlier this year.

Larry, it's true we backed up on the Drag Racing schedule a little. We're just running one association now. My Driver has her band and a lot of hobbies. We do well when we do go, and when something in the valvetrain doesn't break. I put a slightly smaller cam in it, it didn't lose much mph and hopefully will be easier on parts.

I'm hoping to sell a few of these gems to fund raise for my 69 firebird project. The problem is, I like working on them and can always see the possibilities, the downside is finding space and maintaining a few running bikes.

I've been taking the newly purchased bike collection apart, disposing of parts not usable and boxing parts to use in the future. The diecast got a couple newer small parts. Mouse pee really destroys chrome, one seat is totally mouse gutted foam wise.
I'm using the cut off frame from a K2 to make an engine cradle for the sandcast crankcase, It looks OK but wants to roll forward. I'll bolt some wooden rails to the bottom.

I've been working on E1002695, I drove to Tim's ATM cycles in New Jersey to pick up a 1970 no number replacement engine and a sandcast head, I got a cylinder off of Ebay and a second head from the parts wanted here. Tonight I removed the K5 top end from the sandcast crankcase. It also has the k5 engine covers and flywheel, I'll probably move the top end to a stuck K6 engine with 10,000 miles on it.
I already have a sandcast rocker cover and left side covers, I'm going to try to weld up a 10 hole cover, I read somewhere it's a zinc alloy. I hope that's not true. Now I need a flywheel puller.

This will start the build thread of my K0 plus. The plan is to do a day 2 restoration. Some parts will be simulated K0. I would like it to look original but a full on resto is too costly and the original engine is long lost. When I first posted it someone said, welcome to our personal hell. I now understand.
Now for pictures. This is how it was purchased.

Over the years I've collected fork ears, sidecovers, correct handlebars, a nice headlight bucket, a ducktail seat, correct turn signals, short chain guard, the original wrinkle tank and more recently a 1970 replacement engine. I guess in retrospect I can do a proper day 2 restoration. I'll leave the mags and 4-1 at least for now. Maybe someday I'll find a cut fender that some fool didn't bob.

Bud just sold me all of his bikes, his blood pressure goes high and low leaving him not knowing when he will be able to hold one up at a stop sign. So it's true he might end up on back. That said, he took our sister to check out a gl1500 3 wheeler.

Out of all my parts I don't seem to have an R1 cam. Does it really matter that much to a sandcast guy? Yes, I bet it does to get the last dollar out of one.

The R1 is a casting/forging designation and does not indicate the grind of the cam.
I do not know how high the Rx number can go and still potentially be a Sandcast grind.
Pretty sure you may find R1's as late as K6, maybe later.
Lots of posts over the years on cam markings - some posts correct - some not so much.
You have to use madmtnmotors' Google search technique to find them.

There are some unique markings on most early Sandcast cams.
Here are 2 pictures of a sandcast cam. The other pics Bill refers to were on the for sale forum and history doesn't go back far enough.

Frank, that doesn't ring any bells for me. Gonna have to dig one out and look. I wanna say the F2-F3's have an extra upset ring cast/forged on them.

I'm aware the R# isn't the grind just the core used for the casting.  I have an f2 cam, it has rectangles cast in and it's R11. At a glance I thought it was the golden one.

A K0 and K1 use a special cam chain guide, it's shorter on the bottom, This sandy had a K6 cylinder and the lower hole in the guide was cracked due to an incorrect parts fit. Now, all these parts where is that K0 guide I used to have?  The cylinder won't seat properly, I've been studying it all day, then remembered the part is different. I saw it here once.

I got a nice K2 guide off ebay for $12, it fit after a bit of tusseling I should have dipped it in oil first. I did sand the edges a bit, it appeared as new.
