Deterrents For Tailgaiting D-Bags?
« on: October 08, 2009, 11:28:38 AM »
I'm about done tolerating Aholes who roar up behind me on the freeway & sit 6in off my rear wheel w/ they're friggin HIDs blasting - especially when there's a billion other cars around & there's nowhere to go.  >:(

I'm thinking of going James Bond & coming up with some system to deliver:

oil or some other substance to the header to make a nice smoke screen.

- or  -

magnesium shavings which would blast them w/ a shower of intense bright white sparklies.

Any ideas on how to do this?

Cars and trucks are bigger than you, so it's generally best not to do things to deliberately piss off the people driving them.

I thought about a box of nails mounted somewhere hidden that I could deploy and litter the path but I would also get innocents and thats no good.

Put your left foot back and stand on your centerstand. Works especially well at night.

I've heard that appropriately-sized ball bearings work well.

But as you're running the risk of seriously pissing off someone that can easily end you, make sure whatever you do is enough to get that person to permanently back off, and that you have an escape route available should you need it.

My buddy used to have a 73 Cutlass. He used to like to get up to hwy speed then turn off the ignition, wait a couple of seconds & then turn it back on.

Made nice big blasts of flames shoot out the tail pipes and a helluva bang.

I wonder if that would work on a 750?

Who wants to try it  ;D

My RD has a natural smoke screen. Cars usually either pass me or back WAAAAY off due to the haze and smell.  ;D

I used to deal violently with this problem,
but now I merely pull off and let them pass me, IF I am going to slow.

I like the idea of the smoke screen...a small pump motor attached to a container with some vegatable oil...with the contents being pumped into the exhaust system.  Hmm.. Wonder what I could use to make is SMELL REALLY BAD too?  Ya know, like a really bad fart.

but now I merely pull off and let them pass me, IF I am going to slow.

I did this one night, and it turned out to be a cop.  Just over the next hill, he stopped and waved me over.  I read him the riot act.  Told him that of all people, HE should no not to EVER tailgate a motorcycle.  He told me that he was just trying to get a better look at my tag.  I told him that he had the perfect method of doing that.  Flip on those lights and pull me over the next time he wanted to see a tag.  He ended up apologizing.

Even though I didn't have my registration.

Even though my new tag had not hit the computer system when he ran it.

It had just been renewed, and while it showed that it was mine, it didn't show as current.

A 750 backfire.. ???

Yes,,, with a header . no problem.. done it hundreds of times.. ;D :o

Then one day I blew a head gasket.. not while backfiring.. it was actually night when it happened and flames were coming out the side.. :o

I slowed up on the backfiring after that , I think..

Accelerate, then hit the c-stand,, it works, and they are cheap.. ;D

I'm now out $23.00 ;D ;D ;D  Their web site is so funny my chest hurt laughing.
No idea the trouble I can get into but I needed a laugh tonight. I actually got kicked out of a school in grade 7 for accidentally letting off a stink bomb that had the entire school evacuated ;D

This tailgating issue does not come up for me on Island, or in town, but during my hwy ride this summer I found if you watch your mirrors, you can see them coming.

I just pulled over to the side and let em go.  ;) Semi trucks, what ever wanted to go faster than I did. They don't get that you may be cold, or you can't see all that well because of bugs on your helmet, they just want to scoot at 90 mph, what- ever ::)

Isn't there something that you can put on the centerstand that puts out more sparks the standard steel, and also doesn't wear out the stand?

I have tossed cornnuts in the air.  Sad part is I wanted to eat them.

I like the centerstand idea.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.
