Chained up and airboxed the CJ. Started installing the cables.
Realized, duh, I'll probably have to remove the battery box to hook up the throttle cables. ::)
Need to remember to refill the engine oil tomorrow...

Well I took my CX500 for a ride yesterday, and once it got near the 6K RPM mark (around 65 MPH in top gear) under load, it missed and farted and burped, so I turned around and came home again. I pulled the carbs and cleaned them for the second time in a week, even though they were spotlessly clean when I pulled them apart. Anyhoo, I put them back on, took it for a ride, and, it had made absolutely no difference.

This morning, while ratting through a box of old CB750 ignition parts I found a pair of coils with decent looking plug caps on them. Not CX500, but they looked (just) long enough. I pulled them apart and they still had the original resistors in them, and they looked nice and clean. I swapped them out and took my bike for a ride around the block, and voila! Problem (apparently) solved. The engine now revs stright thru to redline, (9750 RPM) with no hesitation and stalling at the 6K mark. Excellent. I think I better go for my first decent ride since I bought it. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Fun little bikes aren't they, Terry?   A bit  :P ::) underpowered though, I use a Silverwing GL500I as my daily rider-with all the bags and fairings it is even slower.  The 650 was the way to go...Larry

It's a fantastic little bike Larry, and handles surprisingly well, but I'm having a problem with it running lean at higher RPM. I've sent you a PM asking for some advice. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Wiped off the mornings fog.... and polished some of the shiny parts.
Also finally got around to putting some hinges on the old trunk.
Now all I need is a lock to hold it closed. :)

Stripped the tank. That aircraft stripper is nasty stuff...  :-\

Next is ordering some progressives for the rear and installing the tapered bearings in the headstock. Later will be new bushings (bearings? maybe?) for the swing arm. Then build it back to a rolling frame to adjust stance and figure out my seat situation (SS).

That's a new thing.  I got pieces off of 78F2 - engine, wheels and front fork.  With the K3 frame, it is almost complete bike, right?  Just needs assembly.:)

Well if you need parts let me know. I've got a whole garage full and it's not going anywhere for a while.
My ability to assist you will be somewhat limited as I'm not allowed to do any moonlighting/side jobs since I work at Brooks' Cycle. But I can give you free advice all you want.

Cleaned all the transmission parts, and the rods, to get ready for assembly of the bottom end. Hopefully, this week. Removed the ball bearings that plug the oil passages in the crankshaft, and drilled/tapped the holes for set screws. Then I cleaned the crankshaft & oil passages. All 4 passages were plugged solid, at least 1-1 1/2" in from the ball. I heard these should be removed/cleaned during a rebuild, now I know why. Took awhile to figure out how to get them out of the crank, though.

That is good to know, thank you.  Would you have late swingarm - like K8 - I need it for the F2 wheel.

Been polishing stuff all weekend.  Started this after work.  About 2.5 hours worth of work.  Still have to get in all the nooks and crannies, but its looking nice so far.   Got it to 600 grit.

Installed tapered steering bearings, painting the lower triple first.  Then polished the fork legs and brake caliper parts.  Tomorrow's agenda will be lacing a new rim on the front, new wheel bearings and tire.  Bike is a 76 750F.

Received my replacement clip-ons. They were out of chome so I got black instead. Good thing, because I wanted black in the first place. Powder coating looks great on it.

Knocked in knee dents, sand blasted overspray from powdercoating off my rotor, lapped said rotor, glued up foam to make seat, cut frame ends and welded on hoop, a bit of sandblasting the tank (needs more), cleaned bondo'd and painted housing for gauges, and researched brake calipers.

The wife took her first ride on Goldie tonight to watch the oldest boy's wrestling match in Brookfield. Ended up that he sprained his elbow. We had to go home right away to get the car and bring him to urgent care.

That's right Dave, but I'm not taking it off the bike. For years, one of the things that's really annoyed me on long trips is stopping for a toilet break every couple of hours, so my new project will be building a toilet seat for a bike so that you can "do one's and two's, as you cruise".

I'm still at the "concept" phase, but considering that I'll be riding a water cooled bike, I'm sure I can modify the cooling system to allow a nice warm flush, and maybe a lovely jet of warm water to clean my privates? I'm guessing I can hide the cistern in the top box, and maybe convert those large panniers into water tanks, then just plumb the cooling hoses thru it to warm the water?

Oooer, I can just imagine it now, a combination of 2 of my favourite things, riding my bike, and taking a dump. Heaven........ ;D
