Riding my bike today since the weather is low 50's and some sun down to my shop today to get it out of my garage. Gonna take the long way a little. Could it be the 'last ride' of the year.  :-X  Next week looks wet and cold. My official last ride I think last year was with Sean on Halloween day (oct 31) and the weather went to hell afterwards.

Nope, it's two B-GT's. A 71' and a 72'. They are in limbo but I need to finish the twin 10 to 1 compression hot rod motors for them and rust repair on both cars.

Terry, soon time for start and adjust it running perfectly?

I'm just back from a carb testing ride in +4C cheating Mr Death! Photo...

Verified higher needles that was an improvement. Will increase  pilot jet today. Another thing when I can test.

Bloody hell Per, that's too cold for me mate, I'm a chicken for sure, but not a frozen chicken! My Swamp Rat project is just about finished, and soon will be back on the road, after 10 years of rotting in someone's back yard. I'm happy. ;D

Picked up my Vstrom 650XT from dealer, 600 mile service completed, and rode it home.
MC collection is loaded on moving truck Monday and I will be in TUCSON Saturday evening if things go according to plan. Should be nice to be riding in AZ again soon...looking forward to it.

Good job David, so you're moving house? Those Vstrom's are great bikes, I almost bought one a year or so ago but I had the BMW R1100GS back then, (before I stupidly sold it) so didn't take up the sellers offer. Now I'd like a nice light "commuter" for my daily city run, I might have to think about another one.

I'm slowly getting my "Swamp Rat" K2 closer to completion.

Swamp Rat Sunday 20 October 2019 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

Yes, moved to Tucson, AZ. Had lived here 4 years 14 years ago and loved it. Moved to Sierra Vista, AZ for four years after that and then spent last 6 years in NE Tennessee where I grew up and my family still lives.
The VStrom is a great bike, but it had a learning curve for the brakes and throttle, as it can stop far faster than 70s vintage Honda's I have owned and throttle response is pretty good and very strong.  I am used to the CX500 and then every thing else I have owned and rode is small displacement Honda bikes. My 74 icb550 is a project I have been slowly buying parts for since I picked it up to be ready for rebuild and restore. It has a bad valve cover, eccentric wear in cover. Going to tear down motor and change primary and cam chains and install 605cc Henry Abe kit with modified pistons to use stock cb750 rings. Mike Reich will do head porting and rebuild head for it to be a nice street bike. Have 90 percent of things needed. It has lots of oil leaks from pucks and valve and head area.
It will start when I finish motor work and rebuild I was in middle of on CX. Stupidly I didn't finish that before moving. It is getting new stator, starter clutch springs and rollers as well as water pump seals , tensioners and timing  with chain, along with lots of other stuff needed or should be changed while it is out and apart. Motor was fine and running great, just decided to do the job to make it trouble free for next 30k and super reliable. It was super reliable, decided to do the quad bypass as it is know and put high output Gold Wing stator in it, switch to electric fan and fix tach cable issue (po blocked off the cable's attachment to motor sealing it with rtv :(  )

Your Swamp Rat is looking very nice.
Best wishes wrapping up that rebuild and light restore to original survivor looks, it is going to be fabulous when you are finished.

G'Day mate, thanks for that, yeah, I'm a scrounger, so a few years ago I found a "patient lifter", a battery/hydraulic mini engine crane, designed for lifting patients in hospitals and nursing homes etc, and will lift up to 200 Kg. (440 pounds) I do have a portable engine crane that will lift a ton, but this one is way more usable for motorcycles, and engines. Here it is in action when I lifted my last project, my CB750K2 "Bitsa" bike off the bench.

Redneck Sunny Sunday 5 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

Redneck Sunny Sunday 4 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

The "bench" is an old computer desk, Frank's right, it's made from really thick chipboard, and it can take the weight of a bike and me (even when I was well over 300 pounds, I'm under 200 now) so I'm not too fussed about it collapsing, but I am worried that it might roll off the centrestand as it's pointing downhill slightly, so I'll remove it shortly.

I bought this crane scale a couple of months ago, and weighed the bike with just the bare engine in the frame, no carbs, seat, fenders etc, so I reckon it'll be very close to iit's limit when I go to take it off, even when I remove the pipes, battery, tank, etc. We'll see. ;D

Uh, you misread my post, I have finished the drive out to AZ. If you are asking to live with me or stay with me, sorry don't have a place and won't be able to to afford a place much larger than my stuff, housing here in lower crime areas is expensive.

That crane scale is just what I've been looking for, Terry, for years now!! ;D ;D I knew cranes had scales built in, but I never knew they were available in small affordable sizes. This crane scale showed 75,000 pounds, IIRC, when the dish structure was lifted from it's pedestal. :)

Took the engine out of the frame.  The last time it was out was 20 years ago.  I was fifty then and I seem to remember the task being easier than it was today - engine rotated to just the right angle, just the right amount of tilt and lift. Damn that engine's heavy.

I love the bike crane! I have a 1.5 ton engine hoist but it’s a pain to assemble......
Got the K1 warmed up for a ride, distracted for an hour and the rains came.

Not the SOHC/4 but still a Honda... the PC26 CB500 twin.

Tried to fix the cam chain tensioner and failed miserably.
You CAN reach it with the airbox in, but I didn't have a short enough screwdriver to engage the plunger. So I had to take out the airbox. In order to take out the airbox, you need to take out the fuel tank and carbs as well. Oh well.

So first the fuel tank with the tap "OFF" sat on the garage floor for half an hour untouched and then suddenly decided to start pissing fuel fast, for no reason whatsoever. Luckily I was there to set it on its end quickly (thankfully the cap seals well), but still made quite a puddle of fuel on the (luckily epoxied) garage floor. I still don't get how/why that happened and probably will never trust a fuel tank tap again. Keeping a plugged stub of hose around now, to plug the outlet.

So after I made the whole house smell like fuel, I tried the "back off and let snap back" method of unsticking the tensioner.

Well, it may or may not have worked for about  5 minutes. It seemed to stay quiet a little longer than usual - that's pretty much the whole result. I'll have to either make a manual adjuster or put a new one in. I left the airbox out for now, so I can access it with the engine running, to see if it will quiet when I manually tighten it a little, to confirm the clatter is indeed the cam chain.
