Also... noticed that my points plate on my 350f, that I just put back on since my Dyna S died, was all bent to hell.  Also, stripped screws galore.  Good thing for buying that spare motor 6 or 7 years ago and carting it thru 4 moves!  It had a points set that was in much better condition.   :D  Now, off to do some tuning on the 350f!

Pulled the tank on the 350F, to repaint orange for the wifey.

Started stripping it.

Still have to pull the front fork covers, and fork ears.*

Kind of thinking to leave side covers the color they are.....appears to be black.

I ended up selling my KZ650 SR tonight to a guy and his dad who drove up from Chicago. Kinda sad seeing the bike that got me back into the scene being driven away.

Tested the new chain on the road. She is officially road worthy; she has safety inspection since August, but I prefer my own - tougher - standards.

Boy what a difference new chain and sprockets make.
If yer old stuff is bad.............it really does make a hella difference.

finished truing up the HD rim, got it to within .5 - 1.0mm.  had the 130/90-16 tire mounted/spin-balanced, then a quicky install on the bike.

period aftermarket lowering kit is kinda cool, 2 mounting holes coupled with screw adjusters for ride height gives plenty of options.  right now, i have the shocks in the "laid down" position with the screw adjusters at the lowest setting.  16inch wheel dropped the rear 1/2inch from stock with another 1 1/4inch using the lowering blocks, totaling about 45mm.  have the front dropped 30mm.  if i happen to drag the jardine turn-outs next summer, i may have to trade them in for a set of cycle-x 4/2/1.  i like 'em.

I rode it!
I bought it 9 years ago...10 days after my first kid was born.  PO promised is was a daily rider.  The cam chain sounds like it was going to bust through the cases when I got it (bought over the net).  Once I started working on it about a year later, it only took me a few weekends to tear it down and get into the bottom end.  Putting it back together was another story.  I figures as long as I was doing the labor, I may as well fix/upgrade whatever I could.  Life got in the way, etc.

But, last weekend I installed the rebuilt MC along with steel braided lines and a phenolic piston.  The last task.
Had the family gather round and let my 9 year old press the button.  After a few cranks she started up.  Knocks a little at idle (most likely carbs are out of sync), but smooths out by about 1500 rpm and runs strong.

I put 15 miles on her yesterday in the near freezing Portland weather.  Hopefully I'll get a few more days in before I have to put her up for the winter.  At least I know she'll be ready for Spring!

Well done!  Far better late than never.  You're a trooper to ride in this cold spell.  I'm up in Victoria, and IT IS COLD!

And my contribution - I found two 550Ks today with enough stuff to make my 1st one complete and probably enough to build one to sell!  I came home and celebrated by polishing some more engine cases for my ever-expanding collection!

The only problem is I'm really bad about selling anything!!

Rode the K8 750 today for the first time 8) ;D.... man, that thing is fast! Rear brake only and dry rotted tires held my throttle happiness back a little  :(. It's first 3 miles under my bum  ;D.... Later rode the K1 750 with Sweetie on 'Prince Charles'  :o to Gladeville TN and back. It was a great day and hit about 65 deg..... sorry no pics. left phone and camera at home :(

Attempted to ride with guys up to Amicola Falls, but a pouring #2 carb stopped me in my tracks. >:(  I've spent so long working on someone else's bike I've had to neglect my own, but not anymore my bike is on the top of the list until it's all fixed!

Started really breaking down some 750 K2 carbs today on several new projects.
Found a semi common problem lots of people miss unless they do a total strip(must on an old/new unkown machines)Look at the throttle rod plate to the left in the pic compared to a good one out of the same bank of carbs on the right. See how bent UP it is,the rod was disconnected and the spring, washer, plate etc could no longer keep it in place. The rod will feel very loose in the slide if you have that problem. Not a good thing. Also pictured are the 4 plugs that came out but not sure if that ultra lean one was that carb or somebody was trying to make that hole run ??
Played for awhile,Sun popped and it was almost 50 so grabbed my 900F and thought about doing the ton.Not sure if I did or not--Damn early 1980's Speedo tops out at 85MPH, though I might have  ;)  8)

Fixed throttle line, it broke right at the sleeve end. Fix is temporary but seems to be good. Installed choke valve replacement - thanks again, Magpie - in #3.
