I WAS going to remove all the con rods and plastigage the clearances, but it turns out that the ONLY non-standard tool I've ever needed on the bike is used for the con-rod nuts. Apparently I have to grind down a socket to get to them >:|

I found that out AFTER I filled up the air compressor

New front end.

Picked up a pretty much complete front end from a 1998 VTR1000 Superhawk. Install was pretty straightforward w/ a few minor cuts and grinds. The rear wheel is way too wide so I'll be shopping for an FZR600 wheel to match. Visually similar and apparently a pretty close match.

^^^ That looks real sharp, tell us more on the swap. Any specifics would be nice, any triple tree or bearing mods to get it to fit?

The upper crown had a "hood" that would've dropped down over the headtube of the frame but on the cb750 it butted against it so I cut off about 10mm of it to let the crown sit lower and expose more threads on the steerer tube. The steering stop on the frame was too large so I ground a bit of that off. I used the existing headset bearing set-up w/ no mods. All-balls sells a "conversion" kit that I may add someday just to get the tapered roller bearings but it works fine as is. Can't wait to ride it and see how the new geometry feels!

Sweet, I've got one in the planning stages for my kz1000. If that goes well ill do the same to my 77 cb750, modern dual discs and an adjustable front suspension sure would be nice.

A couple weeks ago I got a job as a motorcycle mechanic.
looks like all that time wrenching on my bikes has finally paid off.

anywho, I've done a lot of stuff to a lot of people's bikes since I started but not too much to my own except shuffle them around.
That will change this winter though. The shop is on board with me doing a custom CB750 to be their flagship bike.

Needless to say, I'm pretty excited.

Picked up new float needles and some fluids, trying the wintergreen oil on a set of carb boots. Can't wait to get back on the road...

I'm still around. I was busy trying to get all my bike builds planned, but needed to clear out the shed and garage first. As soon as I got everything figured out this job came along and I just had to take it.

I've already talked them into offering to do restorations over the winter. So, if you or anyone you know needs any work done come check us out.
Be sure to let me know first though. I can talk them into getting you 20% off your bill and I might be able to furnish some parts of my own to help keep costs down.
I'll still be doing all the work so you can be sure it's done right.

Out of curiosity, I decided to measure resistance of my plug caps.
On #3, I got 4.87. The others... I got nothing.
Checked my meter, measured again....nothing. Ran to the local shop...
New caps on cut back wires, and it idles better than ever.

Repaired the side cover on the "new" red bike. One post was missing, but I had an old cracked cover that I used for a donor. Just "cut & pasted"...

It was a dark and stormy day today, rain was crashing in sideways and hail was bouncing off the road, but manly men like me laugh at those weather conditions, so off I rode into the eye of the storm, searching for two wheeled adventure.............

Alright, that may have been laying it on a bit thick, but it was pretty crappy. No matter, I wanted to take my "winter" bike out today to give the battery a charge and move the fluids around as I'm going overseas shortly and it'll be sitting for weeks, or months, until I come back.

I rode up into the mountains, and apart from the riding position which is a tad extreme for my poor broken old body, it was a great ride. I only copped a little rain, and the road was pretty good even when wet. All up, much better than sitting on my butt surfing the net! Cheers, Terry.
