Well today was only short ride as far as distance goes, but when you are part of a small organising team for a Distinguished Gentleman's Ride you don't actually get to do much riding.

I reckon I spent more time today standing on a street corner point the way for 500 riders than I did on the bike.

But it was a great day and the event is always a blast, so many cool old bikes.

Who else rode a Honda 4 in a Distinguished Gentleman's Ride today?

Coupla fellas on the "Let's See your SOHC on the Road" thread had rides today that they posted.

After runnin my a$$ off all Summer, back on my CB750K2.
New MLS head gasket, bolted on, studs torqued.

Pulled a thread on one of the middle 6mm bolts. Pissed!

Ordered new head gasket, heli-coiled all the 6mm bolt holes in the cyls.

I should have heli-coiled these to start with!

What did you torque these to?
8ftlbs max.  Closer to 6ftlbs if you use any anti-seize.

Somewhere I saw 9 ft/lbs so I rounded down to 100 in/lbs.

These MLS gaskets bolt up totally dry, is that correct? I used a tiny bit of anaerobic sealant around where I couldn't use those tall O rings...

If your mls gasket has a viton coating, no sealant is needed.
To be exact, 8.7ftlbs is book torque.  If they pulled at 100inlbs, either they were buggered before, or your torque wrench is really off.
The 6mm studs are for alignment, and are not intended to seal anything... thats the job of the 8mm bolts/studs.

Sold a mighty CB125 today as Sean was my witness !! When I got it running, after acquiring it, found out it had a nasty sounding top end on it. Looks like its going to a good home and she will get the love I was not willing or able to give her.  :)  The purge will continue------------------

Rode the 550 to work today now that it's back in rotation.  Something's wrong - running too well. Keep waiting for the hammer to fall.

That 125 is cuter than hell.

The long bolts that hold the rocker towers on the heads can be real punky also on 750's, especially if the engine has been apart before. Think some of the racers upgrade those holes also when its apart.

Don't know how many times the engine had been apart by previous owners but gobs of "blue glue" silicone was everywhere.

I'll helicoil them too. Helicoils are cheap once you have the tap and inserter.

Thanks Rocky, the tyre is still holding air so I'm chalking that one up as a win! I almost rode to Goulburn tonight for dinner, but decided that my chair is more comfy than my FJR1300, so the chair won. With luck I'll install the Bassani pipe, Mustang seat and forward controls on to my Sportster on Sunday, and I might even manage a ride from Melbourne to Canberra on it. I keep looking at my CB750 and feeling guilty that I haven't thrown a leg over it for many months, so it might get an outing as well on the weekend. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Ha ha, well did I mention that there's another CX500 under a tarp in my yard Eric? Hey they might be a slug, but they weren't Honda's biggest mistake..... ;D

I feel better now. I had one little ride on it before the carb issue really went south and so far have not figured it out. I would like to see what they are like to drive. Nice and narrow and feel kind of light.
