Ha ha, you guys give up too easy! Here's my "Swamp Rat" when I first bought it. It sat leaning against a shed outside with no carbs attached, for 10 years.

This is what's left of the back wheel.

Just like that one, a couple of cylinders were rusted shut.

Friday K2 fiddling 3 May 2019 9d by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

So I popped the sleeves out, found a couple of better ones, used a couple of better pistons Mike Beltrami (another member here many moons ago) sent me, and I put it back together.

Of course, it was a bit sludgey down below too:

So I gave it a bit of a cleanup, changed the oil filter, found an oil tank and some carbs, coils and leads and gave it a kick in the guts.

All going well, I'll be riding it by the end of June! ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Commenced the painting. Weather is intermittently cooperating. Sneak peak of the accent color. The seat trim has tape protecting the edge, so it will be color in the middle and polished aluminum on the edge like stock. I decided to paint  the side covers the same color as the tank, I can't decide if it will be solid or incorporate the gold too.

It's looking good. Not great,  but good for my first attempt at a paint job and for using rattle can.

All painted and cleared. I won't have time today to get sand and buff, but I am going to try and come down mid week to wrap it up

Thanks. Hours and hours of sanding, priming, filling, sanding, priming, sanding some more as there is still some visible scratches. Overall though for a first time I am thrilled. Fully polished it's going to really pop in the sunshine.

Quick Question. My triple tree is damaged and I have an offer to purchase a new one from a
75 cb750 supersport

Would those fit on my K4??

Wet sanded, cut and buffed the new paint and reassembled.

I made some mistakes that a pro would fix right away, but I need to live with so I can make sure the mechanicals are fully sorted so I can stop just working on it and get to riding.

During the cutting phase I must have pressed too hard and/or not held the buffer straight enough on one of the front curves of the tank because I blew right through to the base coat. I also got through to metal in a couple places right at the bottom at the welds. When installing the side trim I overtighted the retaining screw and there are some cracks in the paint finish. Fortunately that last one isn't really visible unless you look really hard.

Overall I am very happy with the color, although I am still debating the 2-tone side cover. I am still finishing redoing the badges for the tank, but other than that body and paint are done.

Picked up another K1 tonight. The pipes are absolutely in great shape. Not one hole, not one dent, not one ounce of rust starting on any pipe. Crazy part is I have driven past the house 4 times in the past week and never knew it was there.

Its surprising given the mild chop and the repaint that previous owners kept the pipes.

Got my little SOHC/1 fired last night.

Course didn't run very well, fuel pissing out the petcock, ordering a new one today.

But, after a complete tear down (case split and all) it fired, purdy darn stoked.

At least that's one out of 4 I have that at least sputters to life a bit.
If it ain't raining, I'm riding.....~~{iii}?~~prost

I disconnected the start circuit rpm control and it runs great again. Apparently some years didn't even have one. QT50 yamahopper.
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.
