I used two pieces of angle (4” X 4””). One set of holes for the rear through bolts on the engine and four bolts directly to the main plate on the stand.

All these posts about engine stands made me search for one.  $50 is a good deal, right?

Steve…..Have a close look at the pictures. Try and get one that has a cross bar at the front, with two wheels/casters. I have one with a single wheel at the front (so the base is only a “T”, not a full “H”). It’s not as steady. Lash’s looks safer than mine!

A good friend gave me an engine stand so I did a major clean up of the engine for my K6. I should have bought a stand long ago!

John - did you not click on the link?  It is an AC-Delco stand w/four wheels.

Find a Hoyer patient lift. I found one on marketplace for $50. It'll be transformed into an engine lift soon.

Spotty and I took a pile of CB750 parts (and a few others, but I won't mention them here) to a swap meet yesterday. We had to be there between 5 and 6am, which meant we had to leave home at 4am. Spotty (7 feet tall and quite scary) recommended that I buy some sort of sun shade as it was gonna hit 90 degrees, so I bought the cheapest one I could find at my local big box hardware store, but it turned out to be the best 99 bucks I've spent, I felt sorry for some of the other site holders who were slowly roasting in the sun.

Being a "general" swap meet there weren't a lot of bike guys there, but I managed to sell a good amount of (mostly CB750) parts, and am looking forwards to another swap meet next month, which is "Motorcycle only". All in all it was a great day, and I made a few hundred bucks, which I've already spent on another bike I "scored" today, but I won't mention what it is, just to keep this thread SOHC4 specific.

Steve….. good find on the stand! I did eventually see it.

So after seeing all the engine stands you guys have, I was having "stand envy"!  Messaged a guy on Marketplace that had 2, only 30 min away so went and checked it out.  The guy was a pro with a small car shop, the stand is an AC Delco brand, he had two modern Corvette's in his shop that he was working on. The stand looks very good, and can rotate, not sure the cheap ones have that feature?  Anyway, he was only asking 50 bucks, I didnt even try to negotiate, seemed like a very fair deal and brought it to our shop...



Found a couple pieces of angle iron in the shop, I'll need to pick up some threaded rod.

It allows you to rotate the engine too. Spotty is going to make some brackets for his CB750 engine for the stand when he paints his engine.

Yeah mate, the light duty ones are fine for much lighter bike engines, I bought mine for working on a car engine, but it’s surplus to requirements now.

Yeah, mine has the swivel hook, and what a great idea the leveller has with 4 individual chains to lift the engine, much safer than straps and rope etc. It made pulling the engine a breeze.

Amazing. Was it put into storage carefully? E.g. fuel drained, fresh oil, etc., or just parked up?

steve, be careful, that tube can slide out easy, loaded they can sag… not likely to sag much with only 175 dressed but just need to get a big rod or bolt to drop through to prevent an accident.

Once it starts sliding it may not stop saw it happen once
Some have a handle that slides through the hole to rotate the motor

Removed and installed different needles.  The longer ones were part of a kit made the bike run bad, no mid-range.......good idle and high rpm but stumbled badly on midrange.  Don't mess with the needles, you must split all 4 of the carbies apart to change them!!!

I'm the process of re-foaming my Anti-pod setup. The foam now 12ish years old was breaking apart with a gentle touch.
Wasn't sure if it was going to last more than a few rides. Without tearing apart completely or sucking foam in my motor.
