good work industrial! I've had this in mind for quite some time for my '75 cb550, I was unaware that I could be cheap and buy bent forks and have them straightened...... this might have made this MUCH more possible for me to tackle now haha, I've passed up many front ends due to bent forks for cheap....

I'll post pics of the fork legs when I get them back, you have to disassemble them or it could cost up to 275 bucks.  (its essentially two bolts)
it's neat to see the process at work-

smoosh smoosh smoosh

they should be done by Wednesday 01/20/10 so they'll be here a 3-6 days after that.

turns out the cost of repair was $140.00+25 shipping.    The fork that was 4mm out was alot of work.

not bad I guess, I was quoted (sight unseen) under 100 so I don't blame him.
when I get them back I'll let you guys know what I think of his work.

Lookin good!

It's also good to know now that the steering stem is too short for a 750 (but good for a 550)

Keep the pics coming, as you are taking care of one of the chores that I had planned on doing at some point...documentation...

Thanks for that!

changed the bearings. I had a cracked lower race.

After stretching the stem to fit in the lower clamp, I had to sand it down so the bearing would fit.
I used a caliper to measure it, and only took off .75mm from the diameter.

knocked the races out.

even though it had a lip to hit, the bottom race wouldn't cooperate.
dremel'o'matic 3000 time!!!

all better with only a little nick.

installed the new bearing with a washer, a 11/8'' box end wrench, and a hammer.
plop.

used the old race to tap in the new one.

Had to make a really thin aluminum shim for the upper tree cause it wasn't a tight enough fit.
tapped it down lightly with a hammer and the shim wrinkled a bit, but it smoothed out once it was all the way on because of the taper.
(this pic is taken before the upper tree is tapped into place)

tadah!

so that was fun, I think it needs a new cap nut and washer, (rust) but that can wait.

Scott, I think you're gonna need to get a new bearing set for yours.

DA AMN!!!!  wow IC, that is unreal, well done!  i love how you did it on the CHEAP too!!  who would of thought about buying bent forks for CHEAP and having them straightened out??  i know i wouldnt!  congrats on the awesome build!

so what are you going to do for the rear suspension so it can be equal.  also, what about wheels?  PLEASE keep spokes!

you couldn't pay me to put mag wheels on this bike. I'll be using a narrow glide wheel.

I think I'll leave the dual shocks in the rear for now, but I might change the location and size of them (shorter stiffer)
I'd also like to do some mods to the frame to make it look leaner.
but on my practically $0 budget everything takes time.

F-in killer setup. Nice work. Just outta curiosity, how did you make sure the stem is square in the GSXR lower clamp? Does it just press in straight?

the hole in the lower tree is 1.15 inch long, it's tapered and too long to go in at an angle.

This is much better than photoshop.  Tagging along.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

what front wheel are you using with those forks? isnt axle size wayyy off between the 750 and the gsxr? keeping with spoked wheels or going to the modern stuff?

750 axle is a measly 15mm, the GSXR is 25mm. I'll be using a narrow glide harley 19''.

I'll be making a headlight bracket, (ala funjimmy) today or tomorrow.  I'll post either a pile of pics or a video... or both.

EDIT: great! they sent the wrong size clamps... (2.5'')

got a piece of silicone tube coming to take up the space between the clamps I got and the fork.
There will be an advantage to this bit of bad luck, it should isolate some vibration between the bike and the headlight.

I got a big plank of aluminum too.

(pics and price of clamps and tube in first post)
