Skechers, best thing since slice bread
« on: March 07, 2010, 08:22:57 AM »

saw an add in road in track for the Skechers shape ups.

My ankle has bothered me since the deer incident and never could find any shoes I could walk long enough in without the ankle getting a kink.
Ride the bicycle fine but walking long distance no way.

Went out and bought a pair of these shape ups yesterday and
walked all around the store several times before I bought them.
Wore them all day at home and about. I'm ready to start running now!
They work!! I can't believe something actually works as advertised.

(Okay, they may not make folks lose weight and stop the need for going to the gym but I think their great for ankle injuries, come to think of it, they didn't advertise them for that.)

Even though they are expensive and slightly yuppie I bought some crosstrainer shoes from REI and they are great! Best running shoe I've owned hands down. I've got a double handy cap with my feet. They are wide so finding the right is is nearly impossible and I have SUPER high arches. These shoes compensate for both. Great investment. They are like hiking boots but for running.

I am glad those sketchers are working for you but be prepared for them to fall apart quick. I've had many pairs...

ah heck, didn't want to hear that last bit. Do you know of any other shoes that have a similar sole to the skechers?
That's the bit that seems to be really doing the trick.

I've had a few pair of Skechers, too.  One pair lasted me almost ten years before the sole wore through, and another pair I bought in 2004 I still wear on a fairly regular basis.

Man you guys must be getting them from the right place. I've never had a pair that lasted me over 6 months.

I had a doctor once tell me that Pumas will conform to your feet better than any shoe and therefore in turn give you the best support, I never tried it out but that is what I was told.

My kids are hard on shoes as any are and sketchers last a good time. My oldest grew out of hers before they wore out. I have some now and aside from having to glue a small edge of the sole, have held up good and look good yet.

As for shoes to fit feet, I don't know if I would go with the puma thing. the best shoes dont conform, they are molded to your feet. Even that might be crap though as recent studies, as in 2010, show that there is plenty of cushion with bare feet, even for running. Now this might preclude someone with foot or ankle problems of course. And might rely on them being in the "ideal" weight range.

I've always wondered what was the "best thing" BEFORE sliced bread.  Just curious.  :)

i have friends that had the sketchers and the reebok easy tones, and they said the reeboks were a LOT better for strengthening the legs, plus they actually look normal.  the sketchers are hideous!  i think almost all sketchers look like crap.  although i've never owned a pair, i haven't really heard anything special about them until i read this thread.  i enjoy new balance, never had an athletic shoe fit better than them.  well salomon fits really good, but there's limited suppliers around and i don't get my discounts anymore...  in regards to work shoes, my two pair of redwing boots takes the cake, hands down!!  also, my old wolverines were really nice

I'm a huge fan of vibram fivefingers and wear them everywhere in the summer.  They can sometimes be a little rough on the achilles tendon, (just rubbing a little) but for walking around long distances or running, they're awesome.  Zero padding, but after the first couple days of getting used to it, you really don't notice anymore.

I think I'll check those out too.

Someone said redwing work boots, ha! I can wear out a pair of redwings, timberlands, or any other
name brand work boot in about 2 weeks. I tried to get Cabelas to put me on as an official boot tester. There is nothing harder on boots
than logging. That said, I use Wesco's. Merrel hiking boots hold up pretty good too.

have you tried Danner boots?  My pair has served me well for 3 yrs and they will recondition them for you.

yep, tried Danner too. However it's been a few years ago and Danner was trying some kind of
waterproof liner to compete with gortex. It wasn't working. I may give them a try again if they
use gortex now. The woods are just hard on the stuff, I go through Carhartt coats like candy too!  ;)

My GTX boots have goretex.  My feet sweat a lot in them, but other than that, I stay dry from "outside" water.

i love my five fingers too!  been too chilly to wear them around lately though...  and i don't think i could get away with them at work, but everywhere else they're awesome!  it's amazing how much stronger your legs can feel after wearing them around and running in them for just like a week or so!!!  two BIG thumbs up for the five fingers

i said redwings.  they worked well for me in the oil field and other work areas, but you're right.  this is nothing compared to logging!!  my old roommate was a forest fighter and he was TOUGH on his boots too!!  wesco is a damn fine boot, but i got Halliburton to pay for both pairs of my redwings, so i'm not complaining there!!  i love my merrel hiking boots!!

Merino wool socks really do keep feet drier by wicking moisture out the top.  I wear them all year 'round.  They are more expensive than cotton, but they keep their cushion and lst forever.  I have some Smartwools that are 13 years old.

Hey Jeff, great to hear! Here's a warning, do no heavy lifting with them things. Why you say? I decided to set the 350 SL engine out of the frame Sunday, yep, wearing the skechers. I pulled a muscle in my back wrestling it out and then was still stupid enough to set it up on the bench. I think the shoes are meant for walking not lifting.  ;) Monday morning swinging the chain saw was a bytch.  :'(

???  Never heard of these.  I've had a couple of severe inversion injuries over the last 20 years and I still have problems with steps sometimes.  I'll look them up...
