So, go to start cleaning up the exhaust header tonight. Picked up a used header (with what I believe is a Mac pipe) years ago.  The header looked way better than the one I pulled off the bike:

Nice huh?

Well upon pulling the two removable pipes for cleaning, my buddy and I found severe cracks in both connection points on the header.

Not the end of the world, but after I get them all cleaned up, will have to have my friend TIG it back together.  Won't be fun, super thin metal there.

The adventure continues.

The sun is back here with a vengeance, so thought I'd do the old girl justice and improve the lighting situation.

Can't wait to see it finished. I like the look of that chain against the black of the bike.

Really looks nice.  Nothing like a restored vintage CB, huh?

I'm even starting to see some beauty in my cafe (read chopped up) CB. :-\

Funny thing is, really didn't like that chain when I got it a few years ago.  Gold wasn't right.  With the bike all shiny now though, it does pop out nicely.

Waiting for some phosphoric acid to clean up the exhaust, then repair it.  I can fire her up after that.

Rear grab rail, signal lights, tail lights & wiring, refurbish the horns.

I'd like to say the end of the month.

Spent the last few days playing with my turbo.  Occupying my time again today.

Phosphoric acid not as easy to come by in Canada as US.  Should have it by next week.

Some more progress to report thought.  Refurbished (removed corrosion and repainted) horns and installed.

Got all of the brakes bled as well.

I now consider the front end COMPLETELY done.

Let's make that list again:

Chain guard to clean and install
Ditto for the rear grab rail, signal lights and brake light (complete with wiring)
Fix and install exhaust
Fire up for first time in 4 years
Balance carbs

Ride

Very minimal progress lately.  I've been wrenching on a friend's '67 Mustang.  Three of us are taking it on the Hot Rod Power Tour in a few weeks.  It's far from being a runner yet though :o

One small step forward though.  I never noticed it on dis-assembly, but while putting the bike back together, I noticed something was missing.  The 'condensation chamber' that catches vapour from the valve cover was missing.  My father doesn't remember it being there, but doesn't remember it obviously missing either.  Sure enough, I go back through my dis-assembly photos, and I see that the hose from the valve cover was just sitting open ended, misting all over the inner fender.  You can see the tube and the wet plastic fender in the photo, below the battery box:

So I went on the hunt for one.  Thanks to mcuzzo for selling me a spare he had! ;D .
Unfortunately it was a '78 model, which differed from the '77, but it would do the trick.

It was also EXTREMELY corroded

But after some elbow grease and NOS parts, it's read to go in:

Having a helluva time getting back to the old girl.  Lotsa stuff eating up time including doing the HotRod PowerTour with a friend in his '67 Mustang.  I spent 3 weeks, every night, helping wrench on it before we left.  6000 miles round trip from Canada.  Amazing adventure.

Well, maybe bumping this back into the current posts will guilt me into getting back to her..............

Pete, do you know you missed accepting your nomination on the BOTM thread?  Definitly deserve to be in there.

Taking next week off specifically to wrench in the garage.  Should be showing some progress then.

Good catch DanielB, correct call on the model and the rims even!  It appears you have good taste in cars and bikes also :D

So a bit of progress finally.  Got mcuzzo's emissions thingy installed (thanks again!) and a few more items:

Some more shiny stuff, chrome chain guard for the F2:

An here is something we don't see very often, a stock airbox :o :o

Lets pull up that list again....

Chain guard to clean and install
Clean and install the rear grab rail, signal lights and brake light (complete with wiring)
Fix and install exhaust
Fire up for first time in way too many years
Balance carbs

Ride and make sure she's tip top for when the SOHC Rally makes it way up North!

BTW, anyone have a photo of the routing of all of the various stock vent tubes on the bottom side of the bike including approximate exposed lengths?  I know where the overflows for the carbs go, but want to confirm battery vent, gas tank overflow and emissions thingy drain.  Which one goes through the holder on the center stand?  Thanks!

KAP, holy crap, your bike looks GREAT!  After seeing yours, I really wish I had more time to take mine down to the frame and get it powdercoated - makes a huge difference.

Let me know what you find out on hose venting/connections.  I kept reading your thread hoping to see where they all connected.  I presume if I use a modern AGM battery that I won't need the battery tube.

Glad to hear you're working to be ready for the Rally when it comes north.  I'm trying to get Paddy ready by early May for IT coming through Colorado!

KAP, one more thing.  I need to order two front turn signals.  The wiring diagram for our bikes makes it look like there are three wires coming off them.  For instance, the right turn signal shows: ground (green), light blue/white (running light) and light blue (blinker).  Do you recall if yours had two or three wires coming off them?  I can only locate turn signals with two wires, so I'm trying to figure out how I'd wire them.

Also, do you run the wires out the bottom of the fork ears, or do the wires run up inside the ears and come out by the headlight bucket?  I've been studying the photo of your post when you repainted/installed the horns, and I can't see how the turn signal wires are routed.  Thanks!

Thanks for the compliment!!  I'm really enjoying your Paddy thread by the way!  911 call might be my favourite photo.  Need to read up on Seamus.

Hard to show where they all connect now that it's together, but I can certainly answer any specific questions you have.  You'd be correct on not needing that battery vent.

Thanks!

I'll check tonight.  I might even have some three wire lights in my basement.

My bad.  Front running lights are just the two wires, rear signals only are single wire.  Ground must be through stalks.

Don't know if it's RIGHT but I just ran the wires through the stalks and then snuck them out the lower back side of the 'ears' that hold the headlight bucket.  I then ran them along the top of the lower triple clamp and into the lower opening on my 'F' bucket.  Can't remember if there was enough wire length to run them up to the top hole. On a proper 'K' bucket with only the one hole, maybe one would be better of running up inside the ears.

I've got both front and rear signals in excellent shape available.  PM me if interested on either.

The bling looks mahvelous.  The F's storage bin is so cool - wish the K had it.

What's the story on the shocks?  Are they original, NOS, aftermarket, details?
