Topic: CB750 Instrument internals-have you been inside?

I'm wondering do K2 style instruments still have the internals that would allow for idiot lights to be mounted inside?

K1 instruments (what I want) are going for a lot on eBay as they are unique. But K2+ are readily available, I even have a couple, and K1 faces are available from Yamiya.

So if one could put the lights in the K2 instrument chassis, swap out the faces, voila K1 instruments. I have a brand new NOS k1 tachometer, just need a speedo.

Does anyone know?

You will need to attach a base-plate to attach the light sockets. I think you could transfer the idiot lights from a low-cost clock like a CB100 or such. Delicate work but I think its do-able.  Before you go any further.......I just remembered........There's a set of K1 clocks at a friend's salvage yard..........I told him to get them off of the roller and put them away a few years ago. I'll check tomorrow!

Hi Dennis: I think we talked about a set back in December? I passed at the time hoping for a better deal. With the NOS tach for free (pennies from heaven) I was just shopping for a speedo. Just last night I won an ebay auction, I didn't expect to. I set a bid and went to bed. Won it at only slightly more than I wanted to pay, so if its in good shape I'll be good to go.

If your friend has a set they should bring good money. But the market is fickle.

Cable is easy to check.

Probably inside the head, the spinning bits have lost their lube. I've never actually been in one, but that's the general idea.

That's interesting to know. I will be sending my newly obtained K1 speedo to a shop to have it recalibrated to my smaller wheel.
But I think I will experiment with my K2 gauges and see if I can put lights in them.

Don R..........suggestion.......remove the cable and spray some graphite or teflon into the tack with a straw....not too much!  Also check the cable to be sure it its not broken or frayed.  Then lube it with the same spray.  If you remove the tach from the bike, be sure NOT to store it on its face. The new (or old) lube could leak onto the face and stain it.

I looked at the salvage yard set of clocks today.  They are rough but the tach would only need a new face.  The speedo would need a new crimp-ring as wll as the chrome 'cup'   The seller wants $60 for the set with the mount.
